I so empathize with this situation Jan. My cat Socks is just the same, she drinks water from a white ramekin dish in the bedroom and only in the bedroom……same dish in the kitchen…..completely ignored!!!!
When it comes to food….she is a total nightmare. She will eat beef,….. not a slice off the Sunday roast you understand….Oh no! That’s not good enough for little Miss Socks, she wants a slice of beef from a packet from the supermarket (Walmart love her and her fussy eating)! Apart from that she will eat tuna in brine but just refuses to eat anything that says cat food on the tin!
Good luck Jan, if you ever find the solution to this spoilt kitty problem then please do let me know. :)
Meg.

Thanks, Onie. Funny you mention it. The first think we tried was the Fancy Feast equivalent because to us it looked and smelled the same. (No-- we did not taste it!). Roland took one sniff and walked away from it. We also tried mixing it with the Champion brand shown and darned if he did not pick out the Champion morsels and leave the Fancy Feast morsels. The irony is that the Champion brand was the cheapest but that is what he likes. Go figure. Dreading the coming weeks. Thanks again for your suggestion and concern. --Best regards, Jan

Can totally understand Jan...:))) Poor Roland... How on earth are you, Roland and yourselves, going to get through this without another IV???
Our (Beks since 16 now 32, kids move on, pets don't LOL)) cat, Taylah will only eat a certain brand at 86 cents for an 85 gram tin product of USA , so know what you mean... I'm sure they have a sliced chicken hearts and liver dinner... PURINA Fancy Feast... Probably won't help, but maybe if you mixed ever increasing amounts in with the one Roland eats now... just maybe... LOL... But guess you have already done all that before...
Sure hope it works out for all concerned Jan...:)))

Michele -- Thanks for your comments and prayers for Roland. I am currently trying to mix some other foods with his "one and only" to see if I can get him off the stuff before the supply runs out. So far he is not having any of the "fake" stuff. He is too darn smart for his own good. --Best to you, Jan

Biljana -- I enjoyed your story about having cat food brought in during hard times. What your story proves is the efforts humans will make for the sake of their pets and it shows how much we love them. Dogs are a different story for sure; they will drink water anywhere, anytime from anything; they will eat almost anything if they are hungry; and most importantly they give so much love back. Although I also love cats, I can say that most do not give back as much as they get. Big hugs to Hogar -- and to you. --Jan

Hello, AJ. Unless the rat comes in a can and labeled the way you see it pictured above the answer would be "no". Luckily we have outdoor cats that take care of the rodents. --Best to you, Jan

Robin -- What a great story about the water and Bob. It is a wonder that cats survive when they show such weird behavior. We have a neighbor nearby that has a cat that only drinks bottled water... and only a specific and expensive brand. They try to fool it from time to time but it always knows which water is the one he drinks.... and that is all he drinks. Thanks so much for commenting!!! --Best to you, Jan

I hope Roland be fine :)big hug,big kiss and big woof:))))) Biljana

I don't envy you Jan...been there, except with water. Our cat Bob (yes Bob, as in Bobcat) would only drink from the water cooler...even learned how to draw his own. Replaced the cooler with bottled water...oh, what's a cat to do without chilled water? I'll tell you...he refused fresh water in a bowl and started lapping drips from the bathtub faucet. From then on he would sit in the bathtub until someone came to turn on the tap. Bob was a "strange bird"...turned his nose up at tuna, turkey, any kind of real meat...definately strange, but well loved.
Good luck with Roland...hope it all works out for you.
Take care...Robin

Roger -- I saw your comment and agree with the result but it is up to Roland to decide if he lives or dies. We will provide him with food and water, even if it is not just the right one. Cats are quirky and do not follow the behavioral logic in as predictable a manner as dogs. In other words they can choose to self-destruct. --Best to you, Jan

Liz -- Thanks for your concern. There is a large manufacturer of dog & cat food in Canada called Menu Foods. They make many different brands and flavors of many varieties of foods under many label names, including some very high-end or gourmet pet food. Within the last few months massive recalls started for contaminated food that has caused illness and death in both dogs and cats. There are a variety of explanations, one of which is contaminated wheat imported from china that contains melamine (spelling?). I keep hearing different explanations and am not really sure what the real scoop is. Last week, Roland's one and only was added to the list. (see www.menufoods.com for recall info). --Best to you, Jan (PS: the last time this happened and we could not get Roland's food he wound up on IV, being force fed and vet bills mounted to $700 or more).
