Rocky - Thanks. I agree; it is rather painterly. I did consider cropping off more from the bottom (to remove more of the dark area), but in the end I decided that those regions were merely supportative to the true subject, namely the water. Film of course would have probably allowed me a greater contrast ratio and so more viable detail in those shadows.

*LOL* I can see that you might get problems although many females would love Lt. Henry so you would get much attention, well HE would until he started drooling and then theyīd gladly climb with you up on a rooftop- see thatīs a plan! Then what would I do? Hm maybe take a bunch of very amusing photos:-)

James,
Another winner! I like this a lot! I can envision this as an abstract painting hanging on a wall. I especially like the contrast of the organic sky against the metal and verticle shadows. The colors are wonderful as well. Love the splash of yellow in the center. The only slight crit would be the darkness of the shadows on the left. My eyes want to see a little more detail in those shadows. Really beautiful work!

Oh well, if you spend all night on rooftops then maybe youīre sleeping in the daytime;-)
I looked up Olympic Rainforest- amazing reading about a temperated rainforest! Also that it gets some of its nourishment from old volcanos. It seems you have it all around Seattle, lucky fellow. I shouldnīt complain- Iīm surrounded by water in various ways, but I miss such areas with mountains, endless forests and the likes. Itīs difficult getting lost anywhere in Denmark except from in the sea.
I guess itīs very typical for such an old previous fishingvillage to have so many churches. On the westcoast of Denmark the ocean has swollen many men, and the locals are quite religious as opposed to the rest of Denmark where the priests/ministers often have to close up because noone attends services/mass.

Annemette - Yeah, never did see that one. Early 90's. Grunge era Seattle. Was too busy getting high and playing guitar.
I lived in a house here where I could see six churches from various parts of the house (normal parts, not like getting up on the roof or anything).
The Olympic Rain forest is out on the Olympic penninsula (a short drive by car from Seattle--includes a ferry ride).
Of course I'm not sleeping. It's 1:30 in the afternoon.

The movie is called "Singles", itīs from Seattle and there are some actors that look very young compared to now. Maybe from the 80ies?
And there must be many churches in Ballard and Leif Eriksen as well?!
Juno sounds very much like Greenland where you can only sail or fly to. No roads in or out so trekking on two legs, boats, dogsleds and helicopters are essential. How I love that! Not that I could live there for good, but itīs amazing to get lost for a while in such a "neighbourhood" of wilderness.
Rainforests in the Seattlearea?? Okaayyyyy that certainly doesnīt sound Scandinavian at all:-)
Such a privilege for you to be surrounded by such natural beauty and still have the city as well.

Annemette - Which film?
Seattle is a great place for music. Ballard does have a lot of bars. It used to be a law that if you wanted to build a bar you had to build a church, and so Ballard also has a lot of bars. And of course a statue of Leif Ericson.
I have never been to Alaska. Juno is a little different from what I understand. You can only fly or sail in (there are no roads to Juno). Very frontier-like. Much more so than Seattle. But we have some great natural things here. Deserts, mountains, rain forests, rivers, lakes, bogs, anything you can imagine.

That sounds really good - do you visit your friends from time to time in Alaska? Iīve been out in the rainforests in Thailand and Venezuela, but nothing beats the rough wilderness of the Arctic areas and the amazing beauty and life in the short summermonths.
I looked up Ballard - itīs a rather big place it seems, and I did read that it was a former Scandinavian settlement. I guess that so many Scandinavians settled in the northern states because of the climate and nature?
It also says that thereīs a great musicscene in Ballard. Lots of inspiration for you I suppose.
Itīs funny- an old film just started now and itīs actually from Seattle:-)

Annemette - I have friends in Alaska (in Juno). I'll introduce you if you make it this way. Crazy people on rooftops is a pretty common sight here in Ballard. We also have a Nordic Heritage Museum here. So much to see.

Annemette - Ballard is one of the neighborhoods of Seattle. It used to be its own city before it was annexed into the city of Seattle--sort of like Brooklyn (which was its own city until it was annexed by the city of NY). Originally, in fact, a Norse fishing village outside the hustle and bustle of the Seattle of the wild West.
You should definitely visit Seattle (and especially Ballard). This is one of the most amazing nature places ever civilized by human creatures. Everything is close at hand.

Seattle looks incredible beautiful due to the surrounding nature that is. Iīm more of a natureperson than a citygirl although having lived in the largest cities in Denmark (which doesnīt really say a lot haha).

"something useful"...I hope that helped;-) Sorry, James! THis is special with this soft light casting shades by a pool? The angle really makes it look like the sky is bearly being kept up by sth.
