Thanks Roby.
I should go back there this week. It is probably flooded again in that area. It is a low lying area that has no where for the snow to go when it melts. It stays this way till about mid April and then drys up.

Thanks again Lydia.
I'm glad you like this one. Thanks for the compliment. I find most people here have really good eyes for images. There is a lot of great stuff on this site.

Thanks Richard,
I almost didn't post this one. It seems it is just different enough to stand out from some other landscapes. It really does take a while to grow on you. I had it in my "maybe" list of images for a year myself.
I think I mentioned this in another reply. I took the image over a year ago. Then, this spring, I was reading a Stephen King book called "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" (a story about a young girl lost in the woods and swamp) The image on the book cover reminded me of this one. So, I went back and worked on it a bit more and posted it. I'm glad I did!

I really like this one Andre. A mixture of the powerful and subtle. I have recently taken images of some similar scenes in the Beaver Valley NW of Toronto, I'll post 1 when I get a chance.

Thanks Frank,
This award was totally unexpected. It was an image that I left alone for about a year.
Then I read a book by Stephen King called "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" It was a story about a little 9 year old girl that got lost in the woods and swamp. The story inspired me to go back and try this shot again and this was the result.

Thanks again Jon!
This one is a bit of a strange one because of the time of day that I shot it. I'm pretty sure I took this at mid day, in bright sun. So, at first the image didn't really appeal to me. I tried a few things with it one year later and this was the result. A pleasant surprise!

I didn't even see this one. Congrats - this is a beautiful shot, and a well-deserved BIP.

Cheers,

Hi Doyle,
Exactly.... Sometimes we have to take a couple of steps back and just relax a little. Being our own worst critic is something a lot of us have to deal with :) It was always that way in the darkroom too :)
One of the first things that I did when I joined Usefilm a couple of years ago was post a few of my older favourite images from darkroom work years ago. I was my own worse critic back then too, but I'm sure glad I kept all that stuff :):)

Well Andre . . . when it's no fun, put it away. You're right, without the fun, why bother? Still . . . the siren call comes . . . and we deal with it. I just uploaded a couple more older images because I have too much work now and truly feel I do better when I enjoy myself. I think we all do!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Thanks Doyle,
Just like in our previous converstation, this is one of those images that I fooled around with last year so much that I got sick of it myself. I put it away and forgot about it. Then I went back to it a couple of weeks ago and had another go at it. I didn't change it much from where I left it. I was pleasantly surprised to find the BIP on the image. :) So, I guess it all worked out fine in the end :)

Hi Virgis,
Thanks for the nice comment on this one! At this time of year, this area looks much worse than it really is. A great photo opportunity that will not be there in the first or second week of May. All that water will be replaced by spring grass and wild flowers.

Andre, agree with you that this kind of places look rather mysterious. However, I would doubt to enjoy there during the night time :) OK, back to the picture. The reflection of trunks and blue sky makes this image much more detailed and pleasant to view. Congratulations!

Andre Denis Andre Denis   {K:66407} 4/25/2007
Yeah, It's only like this in very early spring due to the melted snow and some slight flooding from a nearby pond. It looks much more dramatic than it really is. I was happy with the way this one turned out, but I was pleasantly surprised by the BIP

Thanks Toshi,
I took this one a little more than a year ago. I thought it had potential at the time, but for some reason I didn't get around to preparing it for posting. It turned out better than I originally thought it would. Pleasantly surprised by the BIP

Congrats on the BIP Andre. Love the reflections here which at first glance are hard to distinguish from the actual trees - everything seems connected. Well captured.

Thanks again Kes,
I never really even noticed that myself to tell the truth. Now that you mention it the blue sky reflection in the water not not being included in the upper part of the image might be the most appealing thing about this image.
Now I will have to tell everyone I planned it that way :)

Wonderful, Andre! Congrats!

I like that there is more detail of the sky in the reflection than in the trees above ground...and more depth to the reflection.

My awards are few and far between, so I really appreciate them when I get them :)
I try to have a look around in here almost every day, but my posting has been reduced quite a bit lately too. Busy times!

p.s. Apologies for not being around so much these days, the busy holidays seem to have knocked my routine around a bit :(

I absolutely agree with you Annemette. It is also fun to try our own versions of other people's images, including famous photographers.
We can call it paying homage rather than copying:)

We can´t be original newthinkers all the time with so many photographers around, and I also think there´s some joy in seing some similar images and observe how they came out and what technique there was used. A good way of learning I think.
Take care

Thanks very much Annemette.
This image was actually taken last April. I had intended to post one like this last year and for some reason, I didn't get around to it. You are right. There is something special about the effect of the reflection in a flooded area. It isn't really very original, because a lot of people have done shots like this. But I'm quite happy with this one and especially for the BIP
Happy Easter to you too!

Oh it´s so funny seing this as it reminds me a lot about a photo I took this winter when the forest got flooded down by the lake:-) It always adds a special mood when haqving trees in water like this. Well done.

I know we see this kind of shot quite often, but I think there is good reason for that. There is just something about those reflections in a swampy area that look so mysterious.
