About This is a shot taken with my new MF outfit. I've moved back to film for ultimate quality and that it is. This was a bit o' a rush job just to get a result but the quality is fantastic. I deliberately bought a Mamiya TLR system as it's the closest I wanted to simulate using a field camera. It's back to a slow deliberate process to produce images. I don't think I'd have taken this shot with my digital camera as I would've fired a few shots and checked previews then not bothered. I feel like a photographer again and it's a great feeling.

Hi Pat and thankyou for the compliment. Also thanks to everyone else.

Here.s the story. I buy Chromogenic b&w film, XP2 and Fuji cn. They are c41 process ie they go through the colour process. I don't use these film for the convenience though, I use them because the quality is fantstic. Also they are fantastic for scanning because you can use IR dust removal with them If using silver halide film, IR removal treats the coating as dust and ruins the image.

XP2 and the like have very fine grain with a huge latitude and once familiar with them can get even better results. It's a bit expensive but it's worth it.

I print all my own work using an Epson 1290 with Permajet Monochrome Pro b&w bulk ink set (pigment). The results are great but can clog and a bit of patience and TLC you get there.

Finally I've just purchased the Epson V700 film scanner so that I could scan MF.

Hope this info helps but to use b&w film with contrast filters at shoot is something that CS can't compete with Yet.

Ansel would be proud! I often look and the medium format film gear with a wanting and curios eye. Please tell how you are handling the processing from film development to scanning and or darkroom work. Are you processing your own film or sending it out. Are you making prints in the darkroom? Are you scanning negs on a flatbed..?

Cracking shot Barrie, normally don't see a close up of this waterfall but you have captured the detail superbly, b&w suits this shot! Well done. 7+++

I know there are people out there that hate waterfall shots with slower shutter speeds but I personally love these sort of photos.

Some areas a little too dark (loss of detail) but overall I like the photo. It has a nice feeling/mood. The slower shutter speed was perfect in my opinion.

Wonderful image Barrie. Good for you using the Medium format. I too feel more like a photographer when I take my Mamiya's out for a spin.

I like the composition very much. Your exposure time was right on the mark - very nice bridal veil result. There seems to be something just a little bit off with the horizon line, can't tell if it's my monitor or not. Looks like a slight 'halo'. Excellent image.
