Yeah, it's all good Rog. Still making a nuisance of myself here and there, but just don't seem to have much time for me lately. These guys take up most of my weekend (and life, blood, sweat, tears) during the cricket season: http://www.nbls.co.nz/album/index.html
Can't wait til it's over, kekeke...

Great! Even the overexposure of the dress is such a big plus here, as it makes it shine and thus convey the feeling of light! High key elements at the perfectly soft shining skin of the girl and a great amount of sharpness at her hat! Add the selective focus and limited DoF that separates the prtagonsist from the background - and what do we need more for an excellent capture?
Best wishes and keep it up!
Nick

Thanks for going to all that trouble Dave! I do see a slight difference. You did good. Much to my embarrassment, I've never used selective levels before. Will have to pull my finger out and dedicate more time PS. I get very impatient with post processing (and a little lazy) and if I don't get results immediately, I tend to just leave it!
I miss being round here too :( Been really busy and UF isn't a very pleasant environment at the moment. With a bit of luck (and some loud voices in the forums), maybe this place will be fun again. Til then, I'll keep an eye out now and then, to catch up on forum gossip ;P
Big hugs and juicy kisses to you, R.

Great portrait, Rina... I see what Chris means about the washed out skirt but it didn't take anything away from the photo until I read that. I was more focused on the beauty here...
Anyway, I'd sure love to know what to do about wash outs. I did take your photo and used selective levels to try and darken it a bit but the results are not that spectacular.
I'll load it for you.
Sure miss your face around these parts....
|
darkened the white skirt through levels in PS, light burning the shadows, too |

Rina, the monochromatic tonal qualities of the skin create a warm, rich feel to this shot. The kind of feel one does get from 1944 Tinseltown cine. (I was going to play the "sexy" card here Rina however being the parent of gorgeous daughters myself, I know how crazy it makes me when I hear my babies referred to as being "sexy") @#!%&@#&% She is beautiful though, good genes! -john

Wow! Forget the techie stuff . . . she's beautiful! 40s Hollywood starlet theme? Well living here I can tell you I've seen - on ocassion - 40 yr. old starlets from Hollywood and she has them beat. :P (Just kidding - I know what you meant). Wonderful B&W conversion and I see Andre mentioned 50s and Mark mentioned 30s . . . ( giggle ) now THAT's FUNNY! So . . . I'd give it the 43 and a half to 46 and three quarters feel if you ask me!!! LoL! NOW, if she tilted the head about 2 degrees more . . . THAT would be a 40s look! BWA HAHAHAAhahahaa
Regards, Doyle I <~~~~~

What a wonderful quotation sweet angel......it is one that I live by on UF....I look for the positives. I personally thought the piece of string was meant to be there and I have been told so many times that my whites are blown out I ignor that....what do they expect in bright sunlight??? I still think it is a perfectly lovely portrait of a lovely girl taken by an even lovelier girl.
I found a few spare minutes here at work to 'speak' to you. It is 3.15am and the magazine is coming together nicely and we are well inside our deadlines......'See' you again soon sweetie. Big hugs and more XXXs....Ray

Hi Rina, A little like a scene from Lolita, The Kubrick version. Or as you suggest in the title, those 50's Italian films by Fellini. Great little take off of the era! Andre

What a beautiful conversion sweet angel and the pose is priceless......so Hollywood:) :) I love the skin tones with their smooth silky look and the aloof expression on her pretty face. She is fast growing into a beautiful young woman but has quite a way to go to rival her gorgeous Mother. People always manage to notice our oversights sweetie, bits of string, the sun's glare on white...you name, it they'll find it:) :)
BTW, my lips are still recovering from your broadside of kisses and my lovely wife questioned me about the glazed look in my eyes last night:) :) My very best wishes to you as always sweet Rina, a huge hug and tongues this time, ready.......XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXRay;)

Man oh man... I noticed the string when I had a look at the pics at home and my first thought was, "Aaarggghh... she had the blasted thing on backwards!". My second thought was, "What's the bet someone will pick up on it?". Hahahahaha... oh the things we hope we can get away with....

Rebecca of Sunnybrook farm goes Lolita style! Of course i love the B/W and only think the hot spot white on dress distracts a tad as well as that string on hat...she has beautiful hands with lovely long "piano" fingers as my mom used to say....great DOF and smooth skintone...good one,Cookie....i like the concept, too cheers, gayle

Hi Rina, Wonderful picture. The lighting is nice and it creates some interesting shadows. Her skin appear really soft and smooth, and the details are excellent. My only thought is that the white dress is a little bit too bright (on the far right) and distracts me somewhat. I think you hit the 1940's them right on the head. Well done, congrats on an excellent B/W. Chris
