Rick,

Thank you so much!

I've had a cold for a few days, thought I might as well go try to kill myself with a brutal hike.

Luckily, I have open space just behind my house, and was amazed at the flowers in the foothills; I feel much better now, and alive...

Cheers,
Johnny

Kiarang,

My friend, thank you for your kind words.

I try to wander amongst the trees when I have the time, and am always trying to find a way to express how I feel when I am there; this is one of those attempts.

Best,
Johnny

Luis,

I agree, there are much better photographs in my portfolio, and I am lucky to have reached a compromise with this one for the day.

Cheers,
Johnny

Dirk,

Well, I appreciate that, only by accident could I get close to Adams.

Your portfolio has real beauty.

Stunning, an absolutely beautiful photograph.

I love the balance and symmetrical energy in this photograph.

You say in your bio that you have been in photography for five years, well that is five years very well spent, looks more like you have been a pro for 30.

Cheers,
Johnny

Gary,

I thought the photograph would have been too naked without a bit of texture in the background.

I have always loved leaving just of hint of an object, such as this frame, to see where it takes an image.

Cheers,
Johnny

Waiting,

Thank you.

I have looked at your UF portfolio, and see we have similiar styles, but your portrait work far exceeds mine.

Cheers,
Johnny

Cheers Ray,

I left that frame in intentionally, just the way I work.

In fact, I framed (no paronomasia intended) the shot like this, this photograph has not been cropped.

Bye, bye,
Johnny

Cripes, how the hell did you get level with those birds?

And yes, you can capture "decent" photographs, way more than dectent, how about spectacular, this is proven by your excellent body of work here on UF.

Cheers,
Johnny

A beautiful, impassive moment, well captured.

I love to capture moments like this, when my son Declan is deep in thought. Now, you have compelled me to photograph him tomorrow, perhaps we will head for the desert, which will be no small task with a 2.5 years old.

Cheers,
Johnny

Beautiful composition, Randee.

The colours have a gouache like feel, that remind me of a painter friend of mine.

I once had a Dachshund, of course named Shotzie, go figure. Meine Familie, sind wir ein Bündel dumme Deutsche gerecht.

P e t a,

Thank you so much for digging into my portfolio here on U.F. I noticed your phtograph, "a k i s s" when I posted one of mine for the night. I plan on perusing your photographs tomorrow, when my eyes are not so bleary with wine.

But, on the completely idiotic chance, and I know this is a long shot, I'm not a complete hayseed yokel from the states, I swear!

I thought since you are in the creative business in Melbourne, that you may know an Art Director I worked with in '00 when living in San Francisco by the name of Michael Cunningham. He left S.F. going back to his hometown of Melbourne after the .com crash. If so, Give him a big pinch on the ass whils screaming howdy-HO from Johnnny Kurtz.

Ok, now off to find my bed.

Cheers,
Johnny

Randee,

I love this shot, it reminds me of an image used in the 60's for a Neil Simon play, a wine soaked brain fails me for the name.

Still, your bio shot is my favorite. It exudes youth, beauty and warmth not matched by posed moments; what a moment...

You have a classic beauty.

Cheers,
Johnny

Randee,

Thank you so much!

I am looking through your portfolio again, and I must say my favorite photograph from you is the shot you use for your bio, with "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow" a very close second. Both of these scream classic to me.

Cheers,
Johnny

Martin,

Thank you.

I lit this portrait with two Alien Bees B800's. One was directly above my head (about 30") with a large AB softbox. The other was 45 degrees and 48" behind my right, at shoulder height with a 10 degree grid to light up my right shoulder.

Cheers,
Johnny

Becky,

I forgot to add, It took me about four minutes to open, edit and post this photograph, the templates really help. I also have built several Camera Raw presets for colour control, that fits my style.

Cheers,
Johnny

Becky,

I use Photoshop CS2 with Camera Raw 3.6.

I have pre built three frames for my postings here on usefilm.com, portrait, landscape and square. These three are proportioned to the size of the images directly from my Nikon D200. This makes it easy for me to shoot, edit and post quickly without having to crop. I shoot RAW only, make image adjustments with Camera Raw only, open one of the three templates and use the "place" command is CS2, then a "save as" JPG.

That's it, pretty fast process, for me.

Regards,
Johnny

Michael,

Love this photograph, great insight into this scene. Has the great feel of a 6x6 film shot.
