Thanks, all...

Joggie, this is the "Orton Effect" applied in PS. Basically, duplicate background layer, blending mode = screen, merge down, duplicate, gaussian blur (13.7 or so for 6mp image), blend mode = multiply, merge down. Good stuff, if you can pop out a good one... very dream-like, I think.

The temptation is too great - I wouldn't have been able to take the shot

I like the desaturation thing, btw...

Hey Jim, The black was actually a conference room wall. New building, strange internal decorating - two walls are "cream", the other two are black. One of my friends has a cubicle in a corner, and one of his walls is purple. Works out well for stuff like this, though, I suppose.

Oh wow, NeatImage did a great job, there. I accidentally shot the first 20 or so in this batch at ISO 3200, having forgotten to adjust the settings after demonstrating some features to a coworker. Unfortunately, there were a lot I took at ISO 3200 that I liked. I'm going to try NeatImage out on the rest of them, and see what I end up with - thanks!

I appreciate your suggestions. I'm not so great with Photoshop, but maybe if I had shot it something like this, then?

I really like the effect in the foreground... you've got the blurry water thing going on, but unlike a lot of mine, it's not so motion blurred that you actually lose the the motion feeling.

I like the path of the water through the frame, and I can't get enough moss next to moving water... Seems like a really peaceful place, though it looks like it wasn't always that way. Good one.

Hey Jonathan,

Ah yeah, I've been to Twin Falls a time or two... my daughter likes to play in the small pool at the base of the left side when the water levels are down. That's a great falls!

I'm working on collecting as many falls from the upstate and just across the North Carolina and Georgia borders as I can, for a new section on my web site. So far, I've got about 10-12 falls. (Yes - there's a LONG way to go...) Do you know of any more less popular falls in the area that might be worth a hike (I'm from Greenville, and anything southwest of Travelers Rest/Marietta is pretty unknown to me)?

I'm kind of shooting for yet another scwaterfalls.com clone, but with the help of a coworker or two, and in my own style. Any leads/tips/etc would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, since I mentioned the site, if you're interested, it's currently in the works at www.plocki.net/waterfalls - it's seriously under construction right now, but I'm typing as fast as I can...

I'm a fan of both waterfall and night shots, and have tried my hand at both individually, and combined, as you have here, and this just shames my own efforts. Excellent exposure, composition, color, and focus (yes, I know how hard it is to manually focus on flowing water through a DSLR viewfinder in moonlight on a lens that focuses beyond infinity, and it's hard - unless that 5D is magic, or you have night vision, or something). In all, a tremendously powerful shot - I'm in awe, here. Well done.

Haunting, and beautiful. And yes, hot. From the comments already posted, I'm guessing this is you - excellent job on composition, not being able to frame it in the viewfinder, too. For whatever it's worth, I'm bookmarking your portfolio page - I'm liking pretty much everything I've seen so far.

The colors here are awesome, too. From the thumbnails, it looks like there are a few more of these I need to check out, too. I gotta know if you pulled the filter out from in front of the sensor?

Awesome - it's like a dream. The colors are fantastic - I don't see a lot of infrared, so I don't know how much weight this will carry, but this is one of the most visually appealling infrared shots I have seen. Did you modify the camera, or just go with an external filter?

Hey, that's pretty cool - I never thought about ripping one apart before I shot it. Seems original to me. It's also crisp and sharp, with good colors. I like it.

Naturally, as soon as I finish commenting on the other rainbow shot, talking about how it's better out of focus through the windshield, I see this one. Awesome shot, I think I've never seen an "in the wild" ("non-posed", if you get my meaning) rainbow that was prettier. And, of course, you've got the best vehicle on the planet in the frame, too (O|||||O)... Really though, this is excellent work.

Personally, I like it this way, better than if you had hung out the window. The rainbow is strong enough you can still see it, and without the sharp, in-focus rain drops on the windshield, I fear that this shot could have become a wide-angle view of a field with a tiny rainbow sticking out of it (in focus, the rainbow probably would have been significantly thinner, making it smaller against the horizon...). From inside the car, I think it's much more interesting.

I like the feel of this one. The perspective, the depth of field, the shadows. Sorry, I don't know all the words... it's sort of odd, but to me, it feels right. Good one.

Hey Megan, I really like the lines on this... great perspective. I tried a similar shot with a brick wall once (okay, quite a few times) - I think you nailed it where I've consistently been unable to. Keep shooting and keep posting - I can't tell you how badly I wish I had realized at your age that there was more to photography than family vacation snapshots. You're in a good position, now, and seem to have an interesting perspective/take on things. Good luck!
