I love so many of the shots in your portfolio, especially the birds. and those hummers.... just lovely. These two though are so special.. it's such an intimate photo. Not a scene many others get to view. Well seen, well shot. THanks for sharing.

I love photos of wildlife, but getting them can be so frustrating when the subjects don't wait for me to be ready .. anyway, there were 2 bits of advice someone gave me on this site when I first started posting wildlife and bird photos that I now use with every shot. The first was to always always always make sure the face of a bird (or most wildlife) is sharply in focus and well lit. The second.. a bird photo is generally more pleasing to the eye if more free space is in front of the subject, rather than behind. I have found by keeping these things in mind, I've been able to improve my bird photography without much effort. I just thought I'd pass the advice along to someone who is obviously enjoys the challenge of wildlife photography. Good luck!

I know how difficult it is to get photos of birds, and enjoy this attempt. However, the heavy shadows and color of branches is too distracting; especially the way the shadow falls across the bird. Details are lost. I understand how exciting it can be to finally get some wildlife within lens shot, but you still have to remember the basics of composition after you calm down a little bit and start shooting. Keep trying.

Congratulations on an awesome shot.. would sure like some information on how you captured it. These little birds are usually so quick, a photo this clear is impossible. I love being able to see all the details that are usually so elusive. Good for you!

I like the colors and idea of this shot, but it doesn't seem realistic... almost as if it's 3 photos that were merged together .. the colorful tree on the left, then the water, and the yellow green foliage on the right hand side. Maybe it's my monitor and my old eyes, but the feeling I get from this shot is 'piecemeal' rather than a cohesive landscape shot. IMHO...

Simon - I had to comment on this photo.. we were in Zermatt last May and spent quite a bit of time waiting for the clouds to clear on the Matterhorn. Looks like you got there on a crystal clear day. Lucky you. When was this taken? Thanks for bringing back a wonderful memory for me. It's always nice to see someone else's perspective of a place I so enjoyed. Zermatt was the highlight of our trip, and seeing your photo brought all that back. Carolyn

Good sky color, but imo it needs some content to really hold your interest... Something included in silhoette.. a tree, a bird, a boat. With this type of photo, you need to be very aware of your horizon line.. since it's your primary subject, it needs to be absolutely level, and should either ride higher in the photo (making the water the subject), or lower in the photo making the horizon and sky the subject. You have some good color here, and may want to try editing the photo to try different crops to see how moving the horizon changes the photo.

I think it has a lot of potential, but because of the back lighting you've lost a lot of your foreground detail. Perhaps some fill flash would counteract this.

Love the lighting .. the way it hits their antlers, and highlights their spots... lovely. Wish we had that lighting all the way to the ground, but looks like that wasn't possible.

I like the photo but it leaves me wanting to see more of the subject.. wondering why it was cropped where it was.. somehow the subject seems incomplete, even though the color and reflection are quite interesting.

Just my 2 cents... but being from the Philadelphia area where this is quite the problem at Love Park, I've given this some thought, and what I don't understand is why it is that the riders seem to think that they have a right to public funded bike parks... Sure, tax money does pay for some neighborhood baseball and football fields, but not every sport has a public field in every city. I had an interest in a sport that didn't have public-funded arenas when I was younger, and I joined a club that I supported financially so we could have access to fields.. by paying for them. For some reason, bikers seems to think they have a right to parks developed just for them, at everyone else's expense... and if they aren't provided, they will blackmail everyone by destroying public and private works of art, memorials and public areas until what they want is provided. Makes me want to direct my tax dollars into more security, rather than public bike parks.

Jerry - Thanks for the comment. I like the Sigma lens lots, but it is quite heavy.. because of that weight, had to get a new tripod (really needed a new one anyway, but news lens was a great excuse!). I have 2 complaints about the lens otherwise.. first, the weight of the lens makes handholding shots even at wide angle difficult and tiring, also shadow of lens shows up in shots when the lens is fully extended. Other than that, I'm quite happy with it. I too started with a Rebel, and went digital from there.
