I know that many people would prefer to see it in b/w, but I left it in colour intentionally. In my opinion it is the colour what is special on this image. Although when I see it now, I would shift the image more to blue and slightly decrease its saturation.

Unfortunately someone broke this amazing statue a few days later - it's half of the original height now and it just hangs from that wire that you can see on the picture. I guess they will remove it completely.
Asi byly vzpominky na skolni leta pro nekoho prilis bolestne :)

I can see too many JPEG artifacts in the image - you applied a strong sharpening on a jpeg compressed with high compression ratio.

Rotate it to the right a bit. That falling horizont is quite disturbing.

If you have a decent photo editor, you can improve contrast of the image by blending it with itself using "overlay" blending mode. You can soften the effect using layer transparency.

1) I'd rotate it to the left a bit, just look at those houses
2) I can see a dark smudge in the sky, maybe a dust on sensor?

Looks like a very nice picture, but why is it so small? You can upload pictures with size up to 850px. And I would give it a thinner frame if it were my image.

Regarding the sharpening - it is my own algorithm, which is not public yet (actually it is present in Zoner Photo Studio 11, but through a special hack only). The basic idea is very simple - image is decomposed into multiple planes which represent details of different sizes. Then the sharpening is performed by decreasing the amplitude of larger details and by increasing the amplitude of small details. With this approach the image gets softer look with less halos around the edges.

I like the image, so I tried to apply a few adjustments to improve it, see the result. It is just levels, blurred grey negative blend through overlay blend mode and then a special wavelet based sharpening.

I took those photographs with no specific intention, it's just that it's my favourite place and I found more pictures with very similar composition, so I decided to put them together. I have more photographs from that place, but they just don't fit in. So I'll have to take the missing ones next year :)

Have you tried using lower aperture to have background more blurred? I find it a bit distracting.

You inspire me with this picture - how about making a portrait in a similar style, a face through a ripped letter (or maybe a grayscale postcard)...

Thanks for your comments. But I'm not from Egypt, I took this picture on my holiday, at that moment heading to Abu Simbel early morning - at 6:19. But I like Egypt very much, especially its southern part...

I have to admit that I don't like too much editing, probably because I'm not too good at it and because I prefer my photos to be in the "as shot" form. But it is also true, that if you're good at it, it can add a lot to your images...
