Hi Steve, I nearly died when I saw your image on the 'Home Page' I thought it was mine for a minute and was getting all excited until I saw your name. I've attached my image, it's amazing how similar they are, see what you think! By the way congratulations on the award, it's well deserved! Kind regards,..... JIM

I must say that this is one of your better images. The light, the color, the calm water, and the reflections of light. This is a beautiful shot.

Steven, I like this one, has a look of a classic painting. I went to school in England, back in the old days, My family (Pegg) came from Derbyshire and I still have clan there. I alway enjoy looking at your portfolio, some super shots my friend.

Cheers, James

I like the composition, color, and tone a lot. For me the textured effect works quite well except, perhaps, in the sky, where it appears a tad smudged. However, it's really a minor point.

Beautiful scene and gorgeous lighting here, Steve!
I think the noise does add to the effect, it makes it somewhat "painterly".

There is little finer places in England than these beautiful hills. Lovely photograph and the noise is actually quite fitting.

Hi, Steve,
I wasn't thinking of anything too odd, and I'm sorry for not including my idea in my earlier comment. I thought that maybe something like darkening and greying the background would help the hawk stand out, particularly the white tail feathers. I made a rough example of one possible alteration (very rough, as you may be able to see by the white edge to the bird. Anyway, I still think your photo is terrific, no matter what you do or don't do to it.

Thank you for the comment Steve. The background here is unmodified, what treatment would you suggest?

Steve.

Thanks for the comment & critique Peter, I have to agree with you about the 1/3 to 2/3 ratio. This was only really an experiment to gauge peoples' thoughts. A circular polariser was used, and 3 ND grad filters were added in postwork.

Regards,
Steve.

Thanks Peter! This was actually shot through the bars of his cage, but using a wide aperture you can only just tell.

Steve.

Hi Steve. I like this composition. Beautyfull patterns in the sand. Personally i would have devided this photo in three parts( 2/3 sand, 1/3 sky). The gradient filter is somehow a bit to strong. The transition from bright to dark goes in three visual steps.I think a softer gradient and a polarizer would have given a better result.
Did you use a square or circular filter????
