Hi Alberto,

Thanks for your comment.
I can see from your portfolio that you are very creative. This photo proves it. I do like flowers too. Give them all a Nikon this would change the world.
Happy New Year,

Hi Rashed,

Thanks for your comment and Happy New Year.
I haven't been on usefilm for a while, but I can see you have added some more great photos. Do you have so many cameras? If yes why don't you use the D2x?

Hi Henk-Jan,
Re your earlier question about the background. I can inform you that I have a similar background on this photo
http://www.fotop.net/Steenheilesen/egretsaikungnov/white_eg ret_3165

The reflection is not seen when you look into the water but the lens will capture it. The linked photo is captured with my Nikon 300mm VR F2.8.
Best Regards and Happy New Year,

Steen

Your photos are great. Lovely sport shoots. I don't know why members here don't give you more attention. It's all SUPER.
Have you tried a TC on your lens and if yes a Nikon or other brand - 1,4 and 2,0.

My early retirement is caused by a degenerative joint disease. Therefor I have to activate myself, but I have a limit and can't do the big trips anymore.
I find your photos interesting and like your snapshot.

I just checked another photo from the other site of the pier. It shows a similar background. I will try to upload it. The lens is a 200mm macro lens and thats the reason it is making that background.

No - The background is like you see it. I shoot other photos that afternoon with the same background. I guess it's the light from the sun going through the roof of the pier that make it. I also have a photo with red color in the water. I can't upload it.

Thanks for your comment. You have sharp eyes. This is a close-up made with a wide-angel lens with the focus on the noodles. I like to use this lens for some close-ups.

Thanks for your comment.
When you use a macro-lens and get close to the object, you can't make the object 100% sharp. Even with a difference in the shape of 1 mm int this case from the wings to the body, some part of the object will start to become more unsharp. That's the way the lens is build. That's the reason that macro photos are difficult to make. If the lens was not build that way, it would not be possible to make that background.
Don't compare the function "macro" on a camera with use of a macro-lens.

Thanks for your comment Mervo.
It's end of the season for dragonflies now. In this area in Sai Kung we should have about 15 species of dragonflies. This red on is always very difficult to capture because of the light. The red colour can change on the photos depends on the sunlight and the background.

Hi James,
You make excellent photos. I haven't been out to shoot butterflies for a while caused my moving to a new apartment. The weather i HK is now very hot and the butterflies are not very active. If you the places I prefer is in Tai Po. In Tai Po Kau Reserver you will find the old forest and it only here you can find the Common Birdwing. You can other species too. Visit my homepage for more butterflies. www.fotop.net/Steenheilesen
Another place is north of Tai Po station called
Fung Yuen. Here is also a lot of butterflies.
You can also find butterflies in all parks in HK. Here you can find flowers too.

I'm retired and enjoy the life the way I can. But at the moment it's too hot and it's the time of the year to spend in the pool. I prefer the the forest in Tai Po. It's a wonderfull place to relax and it reminds me of the rainforest on Borneo. But soon I will move to Sai Kung and start to explore the nature around there and of course the harbour life with the many islands around. It means you have been to the forest many times? Then you know where to go when you come back.

It's a colourfull collage. For the purpose it's OK and everyone can see it's a collage. But if you want comment on every single photo it's not possible. You describe what you are doing and the purpose. If you have used photoshop, there is another way to make a collage. It's possible to use a transparent way to combine the photos.

Thanks for your comment Fabio. I find you are making great macros. I will follow your uploads because some of my friends consider to by the Sigma lens you are using. Do you use a tripod? I can see your conditions are much better in Italy. Your damselfly are shot with 1/2000. It's impossible here in the forest in Hong Kong. Here it is great if we can make 1/90 with a ISO 400.

Sometimes when the butterfly has been sitting for a while, it's possible to move closer. Before this photo I have made some from a longer distance and then moved slowly until I got the full size in the viewfinder.

You have a good composion on a day without smog. When you save our photo in jpg-format use the maximum quality (10), it will make your sky more smooth.
