Nice hibiscus, Daniel.
Hibiscus are abundant here in Florida, but I have never made a photo of one that I was satisfied with, for some reason. You've inspired me to try again!
I like the way you blurred the background to make the flower stand out. I'm not sure I like the amount of "glow" around the flower, though (but that's just me). I do like this one more than the first one.
Excellent work for a "newbie"!

Good focus and DOF. Lovely colour. In South Africa we call them Kannas.

I have been to this place many times. You have really captured the beauty of this structure. I too love architecture and places of history. Great job!

Beautifully toned portrait of a gorgeous pup. He looks like he has been playing long and hard yet still is alert and ready for more. Lovely shiny coat.

Daniel

I hope you don't mind I had a play with your image to help you understand the steps I followed.

In PS select the magnetic lasso tool and click around the flamingo. Go to Select, Feather and I chose 1 pixel, click okay.

Go to select, inverse and this will select the area around the flamingo.

Go to Filter, Blur, Gaussian Blur and I chose a 1 pixel blur, click okay.

I then cropped.

I just did this to show you what can be achieved.

Hey there Yoshi. I'm glad you were able to see the real thing, my photo does not do the falls any real justice. Thank you for your comments, and I hope you can come back to Oregon soon. There are so many beautiful places here to photograph, and judging from your photos, I'm sure they would be beautiful. Thanks again for the feedback!

Thank you so much for your comments Jennifer, I really appreciate them. The shot was going to be a "Throw away" because I needed one more shot to finish my roll of film. I figured since I was using a relativly slow film, it wouldn't turn out. I guess it came out better than I expected.

Hey there Judi, thank you so much for your comments. I cropped the photo, but I have no idea what a gaussian blur is. Can you do it with Photoshop, and are there any online tutorials that can help me figure out how to add it to my photo. I'm a total amature when it comes to this(less than two months using my 35mm SLR), so any help is good help. Thanks again for your feedback.

Thank you so much Howie for your feedback. I took your advice and cropped closer to the bird, I think it looks better. Will post the "new" version of the photo here soon. Thanks again...

Oh and I forgot that this was early in the morning(8am) and that I used a very slow shutter speed(8 seconds). Maybe that is causing some of the problems. Who knows...

Thank you for your comments Evangelos. I am currently on a shoestring budget, so I am using a Konica-Minolta Dimage Scan Dual IV. I scanned the slides at the highest possible resolution and this was the result. The first scan I put up had a washed out look(no color) and the waterfall looked about the same. Could I be doing something wrong? Thanks again for your feedback, I appreciate it.

I tend to agree with Howie here. You could probably oversome this by cropping just enough to eliminate the flamingos on the right and giving a gaussian blur to the background. Doing this would really accentuate the main focus of the image, and that being the centre pair of flamingos. Well done all the same.

Nice light and detail but a little central and too much going on in the background. I would crop closer to the bird. I love Profia though and the quality of gaumet comes through here.
