Ah, everything is part of a series I'll never complete! I'm always after an old, timeless look I think. The edges I get from the lab if I spec the print that way, I usually prefer it for my 35mm. I'm always observing things and keep different locations in mind for when the light is right. I also noticed this would be great just at dark because the traffic is stopped on the freeway and the lights add another effect. But thanks.

Pretty much what Nannie says. I like the idea here a lot. Great vantage point. Boy , a little Shopping here could really make this image great. Simplify some elements. james

Lots of interesting lines here. Great texture. Reminiscent of old time cyanotypes. Like the frame edges here too. Is this part of a series? James

This is incredible. I love the colours! Have you seen Jan Saudek's photos? I need to figure out how to achieve this effect. When you have time check this out: http://www.saudek.com/ Amazing stuff. Start from the 1970's.

Color? Flatbed scan of an 8x10 b&w print, converted to cmyk, colorized in Photoshop: hue/saturation, a little yellow pushed up in the highlights (levels/output slider), magenta in the midtones and cyan in the shadows.

Ted, I just looked at the close-up attachment of this again and realize it's a Photoshop montage of the larger billboard and a separate fence image! I would have never realized this if I wasn't looking so close! On the close-up, it looks like that is a small sign leaning against the fence. Bizarre! How did you think of doing this?

Ted, I like the close-up alot also. For similar reasons as big billboard (color, texture, light.) Boy that bobwire looks dangerous!

Another nice one Ted. Good investment on the camera - I'd pay $40 for this one. See, phonelines can be beautiful.

I love this style of photography...It tells a story....Or gives me "something" to look at... even without the about...Altho the about makes it interesting.

I think this is a great shot - lighting is excellent and the shapes are quite interesting - i wont waste time putting anymore words to it though - i think great photographs, like great music cannot be explained with words.

This photo is full of drama, yet is so calm. Enjoyed reading the comments in about too. I could picture this image in a magazine complete with a full story of the shop and it's owner. Judging by the age of the camera, it seems to be the right horse for the course......and a perfect marriage. Beautiful, creative & introspective work. Thank you.

I love the nostalgia feel and the toning. With the doorframe placed in the center, it gives this an abstract feel. Thanks for posting!

Thanks, sure, I'm in Oakland but can easily get to the city.
I don't know where anyone else is.

The stuff with kids I just shoot really fast, they don't stop for an instant or if they do they're goofing at the camera.

I have some other scenics around this pond (Hawaii) where the only thing missing are dinosaurs roaming in the background! One I gave to my son to give to his teacher last year and he in the note to her he wrote it was by his dad the "fartographer".

This is excellent. Ted I would like to come up sometime, get together with the other usefilmers around there and see the rest of your work. You have some great images. This is very captivating. Great balance and technique. Be proud of this image. It is something I might be interested in purchasing or trading for. I like IR very much and this is a wonderful example. I can feel the warmth and the charm of this scene. You hit it just right. Let's get together with Alisa, Rich, Chris G and have some coffee. I will be up in Jan. James

Wow, thanks. Yes, its one of the few images of mine I have hanging on my wall. I love that the world is full of these strangely wonderful, ordinary occurances of beauty, and wish I had more time to capture more of them. Other than that, it was f11 and be there. Anyone could do it if they open their eyes!

I think that this is really interesting, the use of shape and light, well composed, exposed an' all that.
I would consider this a fine art print as it reresents what is really good about monochrome photography. a good one
nice to see, hope its displayed at home.

Petros: I had a small softbox on the Vivitar on a stand, which probably warmed the whole thing up. It was scanned on my flatbed, so not a good start at all. I probably desaturated the color some and added the Polaroid edge and scratches in Photoshop. I've had this output as a Lightjet print (photographic color print from a digital file) and it held up pretty well.

The first to comment... Well... What can I say, I trully love this.... Was this Photoshoped at all? I notice the leaves are monochrome, nails have colour, so does the skin... Great effect...

The strings wrapped around the fingers are intriguing and strong enough to carry this image on their own. Personally, I don't think the tape adds anything to the interest generated by the strings. I like this image, and I think the rest of your portfolio is really strong too!

Well, all three of you guys are on my list.
Ted, you've captured that relaxed feeling on the bench, a feeling we seldom witness in the northwest. The only thing I don't like about this pic is the background, it's a little distracting.
Nicely done, I probably would have been too inhibited to ask. His response is memorable.
