Nice image, love the detail, the leaf looks like its HUGE and the ridge looks like a massive hill, the mosquitoes must have been huge haha! Hope they didn't leave you with too many scars, but i think the image is worth it!

I relaly like the contrast, too. I may try to darken the rocks behind - I hadn't even realized that it does that - it DOES draw your eyes up there. I wish I were better at catching that type of thing before I went and posted it... Which is why I'm here - to learn! Thanks Sally.

Pants?! That's such a freaking cool term! I'm pants, too when it comes to lighting. I just did a quick point and shoot, messed with the levels in PS a bit, and voila! She was sitting in a reclining chair that's a few feet away from windows as the sun was begining to set. I made a closeup of this shot where it's only her eye and part of her nose and part of the newpaper but like you, I really like the lighting of her hair. Thanks for the kind comments, Sally!

Agreed. I would have stepped over to the right to get a better shot but would have fallen about 60ft so I was fairly content with this shot. I may dodge some of it out and make it less distracting. Thanks for the advice.

Very nice image. I like how the contrast and tones have come out. Only distracting element is the shadow in the foreground.

I really like the side lighting and the way it catches her hair - I reckon if you lost the bottom inch of newspaper (up to the bottom of the bar code)- it would strengthen her gaze.
How did you do the lighting? I'm really pants with light - and I'd like to take an atmospheric shot like this.

I really like the treatment you've given this because it adds to the olde worlde feel, and it's nice and contrasty.
I would be tempted to crop a little more off the top - just to get rid of the really bright bits of rock - because my eye is drawn up to them and away from the rest of the picture.
I really like this shot.

Thanks, Mark. I'm still trying to master light and B&W. I like how this shot turned out. I think I'm going to have to buy a 350D soon... and stock up on photography books. I envy the tone of you shots and the quality - I would love to be able to take similar shots.

I figured you were busy - you been playing with your band? I recently got involved in a neo-classical group with 7-string guitars. I bought a Steve Vai Universe for $250USD in Seattle a few years ago and have repainted it with a color-changing paint (it goes from green to purple) - I'll have to take photos of it after I put the last final coat on it.

ROCK ON!

Thanks, Todd. I took ~1000 shots while I was there for only 5 days. Was a good trip.

Wish this shot was a bit more crisp - may try to sharpen it.
