Mr. Van Der Welt, you've captured the three c's; composition, clarity, color with perfection. I'm also using a Panasonic DMC-FX8 and have enjoyed your portfolio. It's a nice little camera, with some limitations but you have done very well with it. I would use a little noise reduction software: not much just a tad. Congrats.

This is a great portrait. The setting adds so much to the character of the image. Black/white is the good choice. Bravo!

You have captured so well that wide-eyedness of babies. Like the eyes of his blanket. Good composition and tone.

Alberto, thanks for your comments. It is New York, lower Manhattan on the Hudson River right across from the Statue of Liberty; it's an old pier, no longer operational. The clock is not working here; it was really taken around noon.

I've just recently found usefilm. And the reason I really love this site is that photos like this great one get seen. Being a theatre designer, I can see such wonderful narrative and emotional nuance in images such as this. The composition (rule of thirds!!), gradation, line( the burst of the web upon the light and dark is a very special capture) and subtle color (the hint of yellow in a grayscale) and the various textures is stunning. You've got a great eye. Thanks for sharing.

Commenting as a theatre lighting designer, this image is stunning. Very evocative. The subject is brilliant. The faces in slightly different directions with the "classical" bust in the background ever so slightly blurred; PERFECT. Rendering in b/w is on the money. Excellent !!
