I enjoyed this shot very much. I worked so hard trying to get good shots of the elk at RMNP and did not come away with anything as good as this.
We spent 2 weeks at Estes Park in Aug. and have already started planning another trip.
Great shot

Michael do you live in the area, I live in Greeley about 80 minutes from Estes.
If you do live in the area I would enjoy meeting you sometime.
The park has so much to offer if you spend the time.
Unlimited !

Hi Lee:

Thank you very much for your kind comment. I have been to RMNP more times than I can count, hoping for an opportunity to come away with some good images. On this day, I truly lucked out (right place, right time).

Hi Kim:

Thanks you again for your nice comment. My Samoyed is quite patient with me and my camera.

Hi Kim:

Thank you very much for your kind comments. It is always chilly at that elevation (11,000 feet or so, just above timberline), even in July. The clouds made it even more so, but the shot was taken using the hood of my car for support, so I wasn't far from warmth.

The detail in the horns is absolutely amazing... I can see indivual pieces of hair!
Nice job getting both elk in the frame and composing it so they compliment each other. Looks like a cool morning though!

Hahaha, I love this title! Your dog is definitely giving you the evil eye!
Nice detail in the white fur as well!

Mike: Fabulous image! The velvet should be sloughing off soon.

We are hoping to see you and your lovely wife around the end of October on the way south.

Michael: You may be able to get up the Mt. Evans road early this year. Things are melting out terribly fast this spring. This is a really cool image. These critters are really tough to get close to most of the time.

Michael: I anxiously await the summer invasion of these small creatures. They are so much fun. This fine fellow is glorious. I have some images shot at f/16 and I will reassess them.

Hmm, I never would have thought about the dust in the canyon... I guess changing lenses would be havoc!
I love the lines in this one... it's a like a rollercoaster for my eyes! This is one spot I hope to visit in the near future!

what a cute face... I have two goldens and I can't resist shots of them. I wish the chair leg wasn't in the shot, but it's not overly distracting. Is the D100 a new toy? Looks like you've mastered the flash, as it's very soft and complimentary to your dog's coat.

Thanks as well for the comment on Tree with a View. The saturation is from the Velvia... I could try desaturating a bit, though. For me, it's all about bold colours.

I have an American Eskimo and it looks just like that. I love these dogs...the hair shedding is too much though. Funny picture, my dogs do that all the time, fight over chewys.

Nice little fellow caught in an emotionally captivating pose. I would have preferred the green of the grass to be more natural it is now very dark and has a bluish tint. That would have helped the separation of the animal from the background, too. regards Jorg
