Guido, I was there in 1976. You should have been looking for diamonds! We used to pick up rubies on the army shooting range and sell them to Spanish fishermen and I think they ended up in Swiss watches (jewel bearings). Rob

To Robert.
Yes I was in Walvisbay 1977 ,shooting a movie there.(Swakopmunt or something like that)The roads are black, but it is salt. And so is the air.Loved that country, lots of empty space.Didnt find any gold tough. Some people drive a landrover with aluminum body.A normal car lasts 6 monts.Lol

It would look too tight with a crop, and I feel you might also lose the balance from the bottom of the image too, the angles are helping nthe visual dynamic here.

I thought about cropping more off the top, but I think the picture will be too long and thin. What does anyone else think?

I saw the effects of the salt when I was in Boston, I could actually see through most cars older than 5 years. When I was in the Navy, I spent a while in Walvis Bay, where they used salt to make roads instead of tar or gravel, the military vehicles were scrapped when they reached 1 year 6 months age because of rust, but the Navy had a 1947 Chev pickup which was still fine!

One of my favourites of the day - great reflection in the visor; excellent action shot!

Now get your own camera!

Great image my HB. Maybe you should have cropped off the top a bit so that the open space above the wall doesn't show?

Nice car Robert.
Lots of oldtimers in SA.Good weather.
Here in winter they put salt on the roads to melt the ice and snow, but its eating our cars too.

You have a good point there Stephen. I think you could buy and race a super motard for less than a Nikon!

Clifton, I bumped into an old friend at the track this morning, he was wearing a T shirt and on the back it said: "The older I get, the faster I was"

I think I would rather buy 16 Minolta Z1's than just one Nikon body :-P . I think I could modify a Z1 for a lot less than you pay for some of the high end kit!

Teunis, I realised these action shots are going to need a lot of practice, for reasons I mentioned in my comment to Jeroen. I took over 500 images today, but I think I will need to do another 5000 before I'll be happy!

Robert,

face it: it's time to go for an DSLR.

(At least, that's what my girlfriend is telling me lately, but I can't find the exact right one in the Nikon line-up and they cost, so I have to have it right for a couple of years!)

Jeroen, I set the camera to shoot continuous, which means it can shoot at 1.5 frames a second while you hold the shutter release. The only problem is that the image disappears from the electronic viewfinder most of the time while shooting and you only get a glimpse now and then to check if you are still tracking the subject. I have a lot of chopped off and blank pics! An optical viewfinder is what you need for this. (Is Minolta listening?). Robert

Hi Guido, no he didn't fall, he actually won the race. Here is a picture of him celebrating. These are off-road bikes running on slick tires on a go-kart track! Glad you enjoyed it. Robert

Robert,

I think for an action shot you did very OK. I never tried it myself, but it MUST be hard to track the bike and keep it in focus and that's where your (Linn's) camera comes in place.

Compliments,
Jeroen
