I think you got what I was trying to capture then. He's over 90 years old, has congestive heart failure, is completely deaf can barely see. Basically, getting old sucks.

Wow! Really amazing shot, Joe. I can imagine this was a very difficult shot given the lighting. Excellent reflection on the water, too. Well done!

Interesting perspective; normally I'd toss a shot like this but there's definitely something to it. Good job, Steve.

I agree with the previous critique -- Gorgeous model, poor focus. Definitely try this again -- With such an awesome camera, surely you can nail this one!

Excellent Macro, Salvatore! I've been trying these kinds of shots for a long time -- not nearly the good fortune you've had! Well done.

Hi, Kim! Thanks! I just used a regular flash (Canon 550EX) in the hot-shoe of my camera.

Kim,

Nice shot, but I think it could be better. It doesn't seem as sharp as it could be and I think the back lighting is a bit too strong. The faces don't seem to contain enough detail to make it a great shot.

I would recommend first, getting closer to capture more detail within the frame -- You have a good camera and a nice lens -- This should have a lot more detail. Additionally, you can crop this a bit -- I think there's too much top-space in the frame here.

Photography is more of a study of light than it is a study of how to use a camera. I think the lighting here is neat, but doesn't allow enough light to fall on the models faces. Experiment and take lots of shots from different angles and perspectives and some will turn out better than others.

That's pretty good! I like that a lot. Unfortunately, my PS skills aren't really what they should be -- Whenever I try stuff like that, it looks like an obvious edit and it tends to be distracting. The wheel didn't bother me as much since I was just 'fooling around' with the camera at that time; playing with various settings and such. It figures I'd get a shot like this when I was just fooling around.

Wow! I've followed your work (being in my friends list and all) for a while now and I think you've found your calling. not that your other pictures weren't great, but your macro work is really excellent! The red in this shot really gives the frot a lot of contrast. The sharpness, particularly around the eye is awesome! I think a little more DOF would be good, but this is really great!

Wow! That's really awesome, Salvatore! I'm not sure if you caught it by surprise or if this was a little more staged but the colors in this shot really give it a lot of pop! The sharpness of the fly is amazing! Well done.

Steve,

Sorry to come across as rude and arrogant... That wasn't the intent. I would argue the Mark II is actually a harder camera to use than say, a 10D or 20D and thus, it takes more effort to get a really good picture. I've seen really awesome images come from little point-and-shoot cameras and I've also seen real garbage come out of a 1 DS Mark II, too.

If I had a dollar for everytime someone suggested "Man that would have been great... With a camrea like that, you should have no problem", etc, etc. It's really a silly notion. Yes, it's an awesome camera and I love it. But just because it's a high-end camera doesn't mean everytime you hit the shutter release, an award winning picture is going to pop out.

Wonderful colors, Khaled! I like both shots... The original has some distractions behind it (which is why I'm assuming you cropped it the way you did. Very nicely done!
