Hi Alberto. Good photo showing some of the vastness of Tiananmen. The square is huge. Only been there once myself, must go back sometime.

Take care ~ James

Alison, my previous comment had more to do with presentation, and nothing more. the image itself is fine :)

Alison, a lovely image. I think on ones such as this, you should consider a small frame just to help separate it from the blandness of the white background of this website. Not sure if you agree but a thin border around the photo will make it stand out more.

Warmest regards ~ James

Lovely photo Jacques. Another reason I'm commenting on this photo is because there is a place that is almost exactly the same here in China. A link to find it is here:

http://www.chinahighlights.com/lijiang/attraction/first-ben d-of-the-yangtze-river.htm

I tried to find this place about four years ago but was unsuccessful. At that time my Mandarin skills were not so good, so communicating what I wanted wasn't easy. Today i could probably get there no problem. The photo here doesnt do it justice, but there are other nicer ones out there, that are comparable to yours.

Nice to have a chance to see this photo. James

Jacques, your daughter is quite attractive. I havent looked through all your photos yet, but if you havent already, you should employ her as a model. By the way, this is a place (Monument valley) on my list to visit as well, but I rarely leave this side of the earth these days. Must get back sometime to North America.

Hi Jacques. The colour is indeed very nice. What exactly did you do to achieve it?

My only critical comment is the little bit in the bottom right corner. Trivial I know, but I think its one thing that can separate a very good photo from a near-perfect photo. merely my opinion of course, but one thing I try to focus on is to set up the photo so that nothing needs to be cropped out (I hate using the clone tool in PS but i do it from time to time).

Its still very nice work.

Take care ~ James

Nicely done. I could have used one of those muzzles last night. A neighbours dog kept me awake all night by barking

Sorry, no critique here, just a very nicely done comment. Not much sunlight in Alaska this time of year, guess you should make the most of what you do get. And you did. What time was it when you took the photo?

In my previous post, I meant to say "no critique" from me. Just an observation and a general comment :)

Lovely photo, nice model, and the sky is perfect. Lots of nice sunshine there it seems... slight blur on the feet but looks like hardly anyone notices minor things like that.

Best wishes. James

hi AJ, critique from me, but the wave you've shown us here brings back some memories of the massive tsunami a few years ago in asia. in one of my photos titled "813" you can find a link that has digital photos chronicling the tsunami as it arrives from far out at sea. if you're interested, then take a look.

hi marina. you might try a longer exposure and smaller aperture to improve this photo. also, if you can, adjust the white balance setting on your camera to see what happens.

Now a classic fall landscape. you ought to put together a photo of each season from your homeland into one photo. I think the result would be quite beautiful.

well done here. James

Hi Mike. You should try doing waterfalls during low light, slow the shutter speed down to less than 1/10 of a second to get a veiled effect on the water. Can look very nice. If you're interested, I have a few photos deeper into my portfolio where I tried this, and on the last or 2nd last page I have a few of a waterfall similar in scope to this one (actually the Detian Waterfall is quite a bit bigger I think).

Waterfalls do indeed make nice subjects. This is one I hadn't heard of before.

Take care ~ James

Interesting work here Mike. This is an aspect of life that few people ever get to see, but one that is infinitely interesting in my opinion. The cell is quite small, no creature comforts. A reality that can be quite harsh.

Hi Mike. Thanks for the comment.

As for these boys smoking, well... the attitude towards smoking in China is much different than the current attitude in western countries. It's just something men (and some women) do here, and it seems that they start at it as young as anywhere else. I suppose these boys could light those firecrackers with just a lighter, but why not kill two birds with one stone?

good shot nathan, but i might just fiddle with the contrast and brightness a little to improve it slightly.

tried to look at your online newspaper but blogspot is blocked here in china, so have to find alternate ways to access it.

Hi Visar. You have done rather well on this one. The title and the photo go well together, particularly in this day and age. I guess this is one of those photos that can be interpreted in many different way by people.

At any rate, I like it.

Hi Arda. I see we have a common interest in old villages.

I do indeed like this photo. In fact, I've been to Selcuk, but that was several years ago. I never managed to see much of this type of architecture while there, but I'm quite happy to view it here on UF.

Nicely done. Take care ~ James

Very well done. Nice and clear, clean, no noise whatsoever, beautiful colours, just a well executed photo. I wish I could get some night shots like this but not having much luck... Need to put more effort into it I think.

Again, well done.

nicely done here. Definitely a good one for the raw materials project. the symmetry of all the lines is well executed. Where did you find this stuff anyway? A lumber yard?

Close range? I hope you're still with us... tigers getting that close is (usually) not good.

Excellent shot of this animal in action. Well done. James

Very simple yet effective portrayal of this flower. Only one flaw to point out, the bright spot to centre right. I would have cloned it out simply to make the image as close to perfect as you could. A personal choice however.

Good word. Warmest regards ~ James

Very clear and clean shot at night. No visible noise at all, and nice starburst effect on the lights. well done.

I'm thinking of buying a D200 myself. Keep up the good work.

Nice photo of a local neighbourhood. I think you can improve it by upping the contrast a little, if you have any photo editing software.

Good work nonetheless. I do miss those European towns and cities.

The symmetry here is quite good, the colours are also complimentary. Looks like you used a polarizer as well. good choice, the sky is a much deeper blue. Good work here, keep it up.
