Good Morning Pastor Spracklen; (it's midnight here).
What a wonderful image, and you're title is right on-- an impressive view. The compositional element that I really like here is the strong diagonal of the waterline receding into the distance-- takes the eye right with it-- and the foreground fence anchors it and increases depth even more. Nicely seen and photographed! Cheers. Craig

Hi Roberto; this is a wonderful landscape. As you noted, the colors are excellent, but the phot is very dynamic too with the strong diagonals running from lower left to upper right. I'd just add that the thumbnail doesn't do this photo justice at all-- it has to be opened to be appreciated. Nice work. Cheers. Craig

Hi Mike; this is a really nice -- and well seen image-- my kind of photo. I like the spider webs, but what really makes it is the detail in the lower part of the hanging structure-- whatever it is? The reflections in the drop are cool too.
Yep-- lots of rain lately and I've been getting out between storm surges. The boat Helen McColl was at a pier just across the channel from the Charleston boat basin (east of), and I shot it from the Charleston bridge-- a good vantage point BTW.
I've been having software problems (PSP 9.0) and haven't been able to upload lately-- or get it fixed:>(. But OTOH, I should get a little Canon s70 pocket camera tomorrow so that'll be fun to wring out-- 7MP w/ a 28-100mm (equivalent) lens. Hi to D. Cheers. Craig

Hi Chris; an excellent shot Chris. The people give a nice sense of scale here, and the distant cliff gives a great sense of depth.
I've been having computer-- actually software problems and haven't been able to upload anything for awhile now. Thanks for your comments on my boat photo. Cheers. Craig

Hi Tom; Congrats on BIP award-- a nice one! This is an excellent photo-- and even moreso with the fascinating explanation about the location, some geologic history etc. Composition is right on and exposure and reflection are excellent. I understand what you mean by correcting skies as I also do a lot of landscape/seascape photos w/ polarizer. I drove across Death Valley in 1967 (October;>)-- loved it-- but wasn't into photography then unfortunately.
I share your fascination w/ deserts-- favorite places in fact-- but we live on the Oregon Coast-- long story;>) Thanks for your very complimentary comments on my recent lichen photo. Cheers. Craig

Hi Jeanette; this is a rather disturbing image with elements of both the divine and the satanistic. It makes one stop and look-- and think-- and in this respect it is a successful photo. You've done a good job photographically.
Thanks for your comments on my recent "fungus" picture-- it's a lichen, a type of fungus and a close relative to mushrooms. Lichens typically grow on wood-- living trees as well as rotting wood. This one is the biggest I've seen-- about 1/2 M across. Cheers. Craig

Hi Craig; first, congratulations on this POTD-- really well deserved! This shot is awesome, and everything is "there"-- the perfect shape of a classic volcano, the gorgeous sky for a backdrop, but for me what really completes it and gives it depth is the nicely silhouetted ridge in the foreground. Very nice and going in my favorites. Cheers. Craig

Hi Stranger; just browsing the latest entries in your portfolio here-- you are doing some really nice "stuff" in the areas of high key and soft. This rose and background is a good example of a nicely composed soft and bright image.
One suggestion: as I think this is already somewhat of a "posed" image, go a step further and in PS blow it up to about 120% and clone out all imperfections in the rose and its leaves-- you'd be surprised at how much "cleaner" and more perfect the image will look. Keep up the good work and thanks for looking in on my photos;>). Cheers. Craig

Hi Chris; this is a wonderfully funny photo-- the pumkin catches the viewer completely off guard and is a very pleasant surprise-- made me smile! At first I didn't recognize the gourds, but they fit right in here. I think the light from the window in the upper right adds to the character of this photo and balances the lighting? Cheers. Craig

I'm glad you told us you desataurated this and I can only imagine how brilliant the colors must have been. I've occasionally had to desaturate sunsets to make them "believable". An excellent capture my friend. Cheers. Craig
