I'm so sorry to read this, Ray. Losing a brother in these circumstance, any circumstances realy, is so tragic. He looked very much like you, so that until reading this sad news I thought it was a self-portrait. I lost my Rachel three years ago now, after 2-3 years of lung-cancer, I know the feeling.
May he, indeed, sleep peacefully.
Sorry and sad with you,
Rafi

Hello Ray, you don't need HDR to create wondful, prize-winning photos like this. However, HDR is quite simple. Most cameras can shoot the same frame with 3 levels of exposure, correct, over and under-exposed and a program called Photomatix found on the internet will unite them,It's lot of fun and you can create crazy photos by uniting all kinds of scenes.
Thank you for you kind words about my recent photos. They're very much appreciated.
Keep well too,
Rafi

How are you, dear friend? I'm still around, going to be 84 next month, but as someone already told me, that's just a number. My email address is unchanged.
Warm regards,

Typical early 20th century, probably from an ancient photo-album, hence most interesting.

Thanks for your comments, Wolf, nice to meet again.

What a macro, Markus. typically Scholz. I just saw that the last time we communicated on these pages I wished you a happy 2010. That was a very unhappy year for me, as I lost my dear Rachel to lung cancer on March that year. If you google Rachel Springmann Ribak I think you would find the English translation of her book "Sweet Lemons" about her childhood in a detention camp on Mauritius. In case you still have my address,I could email it to you.
As to my photo; thank you, but unfortunately just water. Wine doesn't agree with me anymore.
Warm regards nevertheless,
Rafi

I love bird-photos and this one, in which it's semi-camouflaged and yet plainly visble in particular. I was busy the last few days translting a colleague's work from English to Hebrew anf that's why I thank you just today for your very kind commends on my photos.
Warm regards.

This is our first, but hopefully not last meeting on the pages of UF. Going through your portfolio will take me some time, so first I would like to comment that receiving a positive comment from someone with your artistic background is an honor.
I chose the above photo to comment on because I found the blend of browns, in which nevertheless the artist is not lost, very appealing. Artist and background complement each other.
Thank you fot your kind comment on my photo.
Regards,
Rafael

At 2 Jayden looks already with a mind of her own. I'm not yet 84, just 82 (this week) but hoping to go on...I go to the gym twice a week for 30 minutes on the treadmill and do gymnastics twice a week at home. You stil have 4 (5 if you include his first, Grimus, the reviews about which are not enthusiastic)) of Rushdie's books to enjoy. I think they get better each time. Same with Murakami.
Unfortunately my Rachel passed away alpmost 2 years ago. She also wrote a book about being a child in a detention camp on Mauritius during WWII. In English it's called "Sweet Lemons." UF does not allow email addresses or I would have mailed it to you. It's just 30 very short stories, some funny and some sad, about 100 pages altogether. My mail is my first name and birth-year (1930) et. bezeqint dot net
so we migh corespond directly.
I now live with my 12 year old narcissistic cat, Ginger who hates everybody but my sister and me.
Warm whishes,
Rafi

Thank you, Stan and please forgive me for possible typing errors. I like books in my hand too. Have just finished 6 of Rushdies and now into Murakami, all in English, as I don't translations. My little sister, 81 in May, also has several great-grandchildren and my youngest grand-daughter (Maya) is in the army.
I think ours is the beginnig great friedship.
All the best,
Rafi

As you say in yuor bio, Stan,I also look and learn and I'd rather receive an honest critique, like your's that just three words. Like you I played with cameras from a very early age, at first opening my parents' box camera and burning valuable memories.(:-)
I admire the way you didn't overexpose, so that the stormy water can be seen with all its details.
Thank you for your interest in my book. Your bio does not mention if you are a mental health professional. Nevertheless I hope you find it interesting.
Warm regards,
Rafi (as I'm usually called.)

We have not met on these pages until now, which is a pity, as looking at your photos gave me a lot of pleasure. I chose this one at random, but others are just as good. In your bio photo you don't look like a grandfather, but then, how should a grandfather look? I'm one too.
THank you for your kindm detailed critique of my photo.
Hoping to meet again,
Rafael

Lovely couple, Dave. Perhaps the shutter ought to have been closed a little more or the composion be a little different to avoid the brightness of the snow that makes for a lot of empty space.
Thank you for your comments,
