Nice image, do I see a pattern from a chain link fence?..hard lighting situation with the strong sun from behind, a bit of fill flash would be nice if it had the distance to reach....regards, Bill

Hello Mark,
You've captured a sky rich with drama and anger. I like the ray thats breaking through all those dark clouds.
I feel the upload may have caused some softening of the image. Adding contrast and unsharp mask may help.

It is difficult to take a photo of an alone tree, without nothing around, especially if it does not have leaves or flowers colour, in my opinion the image lacks some elements which attract attention, you could look at the photographies of the various categories (for instance Nature) to get some suggestions for this kind of shot. Bye Max

if it is deep and blue what about this surfer? isn't he a focal subject? if yes, so what about him?

Tones are a bit muddy due to a total lack of highlights.

Good backlit shot, appealing composition and colours!
Because of the silhoutette, it would be nice to have it a little bit sharper. Some post-processing may help.

Thanks for the info. I use 3MP fine, soft sharpening, by the way. I have some 350Mb total memory and I do almost run out of space at times

Mark, just a quick note. I've looked at the saturated version and I think that indeed it does make the scene stronger. The original post is a bit faded out (that's why I mentioned lighting in the previous comment); the enhanced colours liven up the photo.

Massimo: I have a version with PS super saturated colours. It does look good and in fact, when I looked at your portfolio, it is quite similar!!

Luca: I started using the auto settings, but over the past few months I have started using manual only. This was taken in bright midday sun, so I used f/4.5 with 1/5000 shutter speed. I have a 1GB microdrive, so I use the 6MP FINE mode, which is 2.2Mb per image. I've never run out of space!!

I think that the picture is rather soft, but it works in this scenario. THe lines are very pleasing to the eye.
Bye,Luca
PS: which settings do you use with the 602?

Good eye Mark, the right subject for illustrate lines, in my opinion maybe better if more contrasted and saturated (if you want look at my similar image). Regards Massimo

Matej: I agree with your comment. The chaotic growth is in fact another line, running horizontally in the frame. I have many shots from this scene - I will review and look for something better. Thanks.

I was on a farm. I was less than 3 feet from him. His head was moving all over the place though - I was 10 minutes waiting for him to get in frame. This guy is gonna be meat some day... pity.

The chaotic growth in the foreground spoils the abstractish line effect, whilst not really providing a focal point that would contrast with the lines and textures. Perhaps you could crop it off? Also I don't see anything that would be quite in focus. Have you tried photographing this scene at different times of day, with different lighting conditions?

Good shot! Very crisp details. How did you get so close? It does not look like you used a zoom lens. Nice job.
