lack of sharpness is an issue, as well as the fact that the photo says very little, there is little to put the photo in context, so in essence it simply becomes 2 soldiers standing around.

Well done. good composition, nice dramatic light with contrast to give depth. And I love the fun of looking at an old photo with period details-gotta love those glasses

Good idea, the sun would be a bit better placed a bit more as a backlight, but the tones are nice . By turning slightly you would lose the hot spot on the little boy's face by moving it to become a hairlight. you have nice ideas, the technical stuff will come with practice (I shoot over 200,000 photos a year and I still miss stuff)

I like the model and pose, I like his facial expression, but that is me. the tones are good in this photo. Like Amy said, crop a bit off the top there is just a little too much headroom. Good job

A well composed shot with good feeling. If you can dial back the flash on the camera, the tone would improve greatly. the "open" shade of a tree works well for portraits, but you want to avoid flat light that is even all around. A good rule is flash that is one stop under the normal light. If you cannot manually control the flash, try a diffuser or use a bit of tissue paper or similar material to "soften" the light from the flash. Keep at it, you are doing great.

fantastic color and detail. I like the side composition, it allows the natural leading lines in the petals to draw you in, very nice.

i am surprised you did not get more digital noise with the d100 shooting at 1600, your exposure must have been spot on without much lightening necessary. My D1 gets awful above 400, I usually try to only shoot at 200 if possible. I was just issued a D1x and this seems to be a lot better. it amazes me how fast technology moves. You might try adding a bit of red to this image in the shadows and midtones, i think I detect a hint of cyan or green. really nice work

Very good use of a mirror, with good exposure and focus in the right spot. The arm acts as a nice leading line, and the eyes are very alive. nice work

Very good detail in the statue, and the color in the sky shows that this is real and not brought out vompletely in photoshp. the scloud adds interest and fills in the white space.

the feeling of this photo is tremendous, it is a photo that you can feel, the humidity and the heavy air. The composition is noce with a good leading line, I like the fence post and the detail it provides because of its sharpness. The toning of the image works well. Nice work. On Sigma lenses, I use a 14mm/2.8 daily, and also have their 17-35. the 14 is very sharp and contrasty, and is one of my favorite lenses (i am also shootin digital with a D1/x so it is not a 14 on the camera) the 17-35 is not as crisp as i would like, but it is very inexpensive and was purchased in a pinch. The construction of the 17-35 is a bit on the plasticky side, while the 14 is nice and heavy with much metal. my $.02

Nice expression and pose. This reminds me of an ad I saw recently, maybe its the tonality or the fun smile, maybe like a mentos commercial. This portrait is very flattering to the model, she myust really like it. Good work
