wow! great contrast, shawn. i really like the perspective with the rock & puddle in front. i'm having a hard time deciding whther i like this one or No. 1 better. No. 1 seems to flow better but is not as interesting overall. great shot!

Cades Cove in the Smokies is the best place to photograph deer. There are several thousand people that pass through daily so the deer are very used to people. You can get very close to the deer. In some cases I was only 20 feet from a deer and I did not disturb it in the least.

deer feeding in the early morning mist. beautiful. you gotta love the piedmont. well captured. excellent color and mood. i would say that the only thing that could've made this better is a tighter shot on the deer, but that was probably not possible. how did you manage not to spook them? i guess you were all the way out to 320mm?
take care, tom

This is great, but I think a minor crop would make this perfect. The highlights in the background distract from the great motion blur and clarity of your foreground. My eye as is follows the water all the way to the back and locks on the highlighted trees. Less that my eye sticks to the center of your image with the whitewater. My eye then runs back and forth between the running water and the pool in the foreground. Very strong image. great tones and clarity. This is very very nice! Nice PS work to convert this to B&W.

I think you chose the right lens for this shot. It looks like a fairly small stream, & you made it look bigger. Shutter speed was good too [IMO]. I'm being picky here, but I can't help but notice the horizontal form [upper left] against the vertical. Is that a natural dead-fall or a bridge railing? In any case, I think you've produced a very good image here.
