Thanks Stan for the comments and the alternative crop. I really appreciated getting another perspective on a shot.
I like my crop for the following reasons. If possible, I try to include some of the natural surroundings in a shot to give it context. As well, I prefer my composition because it gives the egret more space on the left hand side. I find it troublesome for the long pointy beak of egret to be so tight to the side of the image. Also, I find the grouping of the egret, the branches to the left and the reflections of these items to be an attractive grouping which leads the eye in a bit of a circular path.

Thanks for the comments Michele. The shot was taken in a southern Louisiana swamp. One of most common trees in these swamps is the bald cypress. The dark object in the image is a "knee" of the cypress trees. It is not really known what their function is, but it is thought that they may help in providing oxygen to the tree and assist in anchoring the tree in the soft, muddy soil. The attached shot of the swamp shows a cypress knee. The knee is in the middle foreground. There a couple more behind this knee and another on the water's edge on the right hand side.

Hi Joe, you are spot on with all the Egret shots. Your focus and detail are great. I tried a little different crop to really show off the bird. Hope you like it as well.

Another excellent image of this egret with amazing reflections - I am not sure what the dark colored object is on the top left - maybe a stick (?) However it does not distract from the excellent image of this egret and the reflections - I am just curious - knowing you it is just a stick but I had to ask :))

Excellent moment captured with such clarity and great color. I really like the reflections and ripples as it give the picture that extra life with the Egret spreading its wings as well. Focus is spot on that eye.
