To Reynaldo and Danny. I have also posted this on another critique forum and have gotten the same suggestions. First thanks for critiquing. I do appreciate comments when I get them and I do try to use them in future photo sessions, be that my profesional layouts or when I am just off and about taking pictures.
This was not done in Macro which is why the background isn't blured. I wanted her to be a part of the surroundings, with her holding the roses and the placement of her feet. Because this is a full body shot, my distance was too far to get a macro. My concern here is , that in macro with the background blurred, wouldn't that look off set with her feet and grass before her sharp. Now when I do close up shots I do set it in macro and get the blurred effect. I will have to show another of her that I did in macro. I would like to see, if either of you have one, a full body picture with a blurred background so that I can visualize the look and also how you did it. When ever I shoot macro in this distance (SOmetimes I forget to change the settings on my camera lol) the whole picture looks distorted. Thanks again for commenting. I would like to see how it would look blurred.

Julia, I agree with Brendon that the composition and the lighting in this portrait is done well. However I have to say that I don't much care for the pose. First let me say that I am extremely critical when I do a critique and I point out what I feel can be improved upon and why. When I do portraits of children, I try to capture their spirit "charm." I think you have her charm,( that would be hard to miss) but as for her spirit, the picture is too stoic. Give her something that she cherishes such as a pet, or fingering a piece of jewelry (She looks a bit old for toys) She likes music I am sure, play some of "Her" music (Not yours.) Don't hide her face with her hands. She is beautiful so show it. I looked at your other pictures of people and you are really doing well. Keep trying. ~Honey. OH btw if you don't already have it go out and buythe book called. Creative techniques for photographing children by Vic Orenstein. It was a big help for me.

This is so excellent. I read the comments from the cell block and I looked at the link. After reading that and your health warnings I am not sure that I want to mess around with that stuff, especially since there are young kids where I live and considering my dad's law, "Murphy was an optimist" I don't think its safe. I wonder if I can get this same effect in an editing program. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it. I realize that it is not the same thing but I would like to get close Honey

Bruno This is fantastic. I wish I had your creative eye. If I would have seen it I would have looked right past it and not seen the essence that you caught in this. Good one!

Hi RoZ, I think the pose in this picture is very sweet but I am not sure what you were trying to accomplish. There is just way too much shadow on her face expecially around her eyes. Additionally the shadow on her L cheek (R as looking at it) makes her look older. Unless this was the intent for shadow, I suggest using a reflector board to remove the shadows from her face. It looks like she has a pretty face. Don't hide it behind the shadows.

Jacob- This is a beautiful picture of a rose and in simplicity its perfect. It is perfectly cropped and perfectly centered. I don't know if you are familar with the C.A.L.L. Method. That stands for Crop Angle Light and Lens. As pretty a picture as this is, I wonder how angling your camera a bitt differently and following the rule of thirds would have done for the appeal. For example putting the rose buds in the L corner of the frame and zooming a bit closer to grab the detail of the delicate rose. Thats just my .02 ~Honey

I agree with Dawna that I like the second shot better. It shows a playful character, as if he is longing for you to put the camera down and toss the ball. However I think the little white dot on his nose adds character as well. It makes me wonder what he's been nosing in. Keep it up, you have cutie there. ~Honey

Jason,
I like this picture a-lot and let me tell you why. It shows your artistic style and makes me think of afternoon fishing with Grandpa as a little kid. The old wallet and the B&W picture give your photo warmth and it evoked a pleasent happy memory for me. The leading lines add to the memory of sitting on a dock at a lake on a summer's evening. Technically the comments from the other photographers are sound, that is if you are looking for stronger technique. As far as your artistic style, you did very well. In my opinion, pictures that evoke emotions from the viewer are the best.~Honey

Julia, this is a really good start at ports. Ports are my line of work and I love capturing the special spirit of each person. A little constructive comments, I am not sure if this was your intent but her hands are cut out. This looks to me like its too close of a full body shot. Next time back off and show the hands and feet in a pose as this. Children's hands are very cute and bare feet really add natural character your picture. Try having her fold her arms over her knees so that her hands show. Keep it up you have an excellent start here. ~Honey

I think she looks beautiful! As for a sad expression, I really don't see that. To me she has an interested look as if she has just spotted a mouse. As for the composition, its great~Honey
