Nice capture Eric,
I am glad that at least you got this Red-breasted Merganser female in flight. I was paddling when she took off, so I missed it.
Maybe I will get it next time.
Check this one out.

That's the male. I got it in early February at the same spot.

Take care.

Thanks for the comment. It was bright in the afternoon, 2 hrs before sunset, but it is little bit strong side light. In my monitor, with CameraRaw, no clipping, well sitting in the middle and shift toward the right side of the histogram. With photoshop, very little adjustments on levels, curves, and saturation. I think I need to learn more on the photo shooting techniques and photoshop stuffs, but thanks for your critique.

Hi Eric,

Great detail and focus in this shot. Seems to be a little over-exposed though. How does it look on your monitor?

Thanks for the comments. Don't know the rules on the BIP, but will try harder to get more in BIPs.
I love the new Canon setups, because there is something Nikon can't do, but I won't give up on Nikon due to it has better optics for other works.
Please email me at nieeric@yahoo.com if you like. Thanks for the offer of shooting oppertunity in the future near your place...

Very nice Eric, sharp detail and pose, good control over the whites and a very pleasing background, I really like the very small water drops coming off the wings, many would not notice it but with non flight shots its the little things that add to the overall composition. Excellent..
So how do you like the new setup so far?

OH ok you were on a boat well that explains it. I hope you dont think i was nit picking with my comments, I just like to help and I know you just switched over to canon gear, actually exactly what Im using, Sometimes I get carried away as I really like to share the passion for this art. I do see a vast improvement in photos since you switched and I do know that 200-400 can be a pain and very restricting...
I hope to shoot with you sometime soon..
Take Care..

Nice detail within the body and head, I curious why you shot the perched HB at 1/60th? to get a nice visible wing blur of these guys you need to be at around 1/500th.. well done..

very colorful little guy, I like the nice sharp beak and head, though the cropped off toe and a bit too quick drop in DOF leaves the back half of the subject a bit soft, though at F/11 I wouldnt expect that?

the classic RWBB shot, nice control over the blacks, the open beak is always pleasing, I may have cropped a bit of the distracting reeds out but thats personal preference..

Eric, I am glad you decided to put another image up today because I could not remember your name. I had seen this image in the thumbnail, and realised it must be more than just a structure, but got called into work before I could check it out.
It is quite amazing, the birds are so evenly spaced- they must have personal spaces just like humans. I like the simplicity and the story it tells. Cool shot. CC
