About I tried to take the suggestions offered on the first post and incorpaoate them here. Tightened the crop, did a little PS work and increased the contrast.

Well, it wont let me attach the image for some reason. Drop me an email at dc_portraits@sbcglobal.net and I'd be happy to show you my example.

Phil, I hope you don't mind, but I had a go with this image to show you what I mean. I actually ended up doing my "trick" three times. Once to just the whites/irises, once to the skin around her eyes (eye socket, eye lid, just under the eye,) and once to her entire face. It just brightened it up a little bit, nothing drastic. I just moved the slider on the levels layer very slightly. When you're done you have to remember to flatten the layers.

Let me know what you think and if you have questions on how to do it.

Phil, this is a pretty portrait. I think your ps work and tighter crop do make this better. But there's still one thing missing . . .light to her eyes. Here's a little trick I do. If you know how to use the quick mask mode in PS, try this. You double click on the QM mode (box to the right), a dialog box will come up, make sure it says "selected area" and 50% opacity, click ok, then you select the brush tool at 100%, and enlarge your image so you can get to her eyes. Make sure your colors are black/white. Then you use the brush tool to paint over her eyes in black (if you did it right, it will look like you're painting her eyes red.) Use the white color on brush to brush off mistakes. I just brush over the white of the eyes and the iris & pupil. When you're done click on the other box to the left taking it back to standard mode. Then you go up to the layer pallette and click on the little black/white circle, select "levels." Then you move the slider just a little bit and watch the eyes come to life. You want it to be very subtle, so it looks natural. Then you can go back into the layer palette to reduce the effect if you wish. This just brightens them up a bit and hopefully will put some light into them. Let me know if I didn't make something clear, and I'll try to help you.

May I ask whereabouts in Texas? You're within 100 miles of what town/city?

The blotches are gone, Phil, and the balance is much better. . .but the poor dear's eyes are withheld from our reach and consideration.
