About Another image taken about 3 minutes before the previous image. Again it was pitch black, cold, wet and windy. And I had just come out of a meeting so was totally unprepared...!! Things we do for photography.

Larry, the ISO was set at 64. I had my tripod with me but it was windy. So I was also holding a brochure on the top of the camera to stop the rain on the camera and also to try and steady the camera. I tried a couple of different tripods as you will see in the attached. This photo was taken on a small tripod that I was holding on the bonnet of the car. I haven't straightened it to show you what can still be achieved. The only downside was the car wasn't in the right spot for best results.

Mark, you are funny. I actually took a shot before the storm came that you might like. I will let you know when I have uploaded it.

Hey neat!! What ISO were you at, about 100??
Assume you were handholding also right?

A really old friend photographer that got me going as a young man....had a couple wallet sized pics he took of "chain-lightening", you could really see the 2nd bolt image with the orginal one, with lines connecting them every so far, like a chain.

I believe he shot his from a tripod with lens set on "bulb".

These are very good, and I am proud of you!!

Some people have all the luck! Both of these lightning shots are spectacular. Great job. Me? I'm sticking to snakes.

Take care,

Mark

Thankyou. That surprised me considering I couldn't see anything through the viewfinder and yet by the time the image was taken the preview showed it like daytime.

Yes Kurt. Hubby is pretty careful about the computer and as he was babysitting for me, turned it off and unplugged it until I got home. By then the storm had basically passed.

Judi I really like the contrast here between the controlled and the uncontrolled. We can see the controlled electrical power in the form of the power lines and the uncontrolled in the lightning. Wonderful imagery. Hope your computer is well protected! Kurt

Ian, the camera does have metal in it. I know I was risking a lot by being there. But I just tried to forget about that and grab what I could.

Kurt. The storm started just as we were entering the meeting. We left early after only 1.5 hours to find most of the roads under water...now that was a shock to the system.

We grabbed our cameras and got what we could. It seems to have stopped now though.
