My favourite in the series. I think it says all about ?really loosing it? in a way that becomes worrying and even scary (number of split personalities increases). Hugo, you couldn?t have thought of a better end for this series.

This is the magic in all these Hugo, the different interpretations! I managed to understand in the III part of all "losing it" series that you refer to a kind of altered state, a lack of balance. I did not mention anything about it though as ideologically I am in favour of experiencing all sides of something until reaching a kind of Tao way , that is something like the Platonic synthesis, the balancing of the opposites until one realizes that the opposites are the 2 exptremes of the same thing. So losing it for me has nothing to do with an unbalance , but still it is lovely to see all these interpretations! kiss!

Hi Mary, thanks for the comment; I think Maria's explanation is even more profound than my initial idea... Losing it has a reference to me; hence the conclusion with a multiple selfportrait. In this series, I tried to build up the tension to the level of unease. In part I it starts off nice and easy, with number II adding to the motion and dynamism. With number III, I tried to get out of control. Losing it refers to a number of things:
1. The sense of reality
2. The sense of security
3. Tolerance
4. Being open minded
5. General balance in life
But I realised, this series could be interpreted in many different ways, which made me pose the request. Thanks for your comments! I do like your explanation, very imaginative and you made a very good point!

Hi Arwa, thanks for your comments. I promised to explain what I did, so here it is...
I went into the woods with camera, flash and tripod. Set up the camera on Manual, selecting the f/22 and the 30 seconds exposure time. Then I pressed the self exposure button, and ran out in front of the camera. During the thirty seconds, I flashed myself in the face (blinding myself) and relocating for the next shot. So it's a multiple self portrait.... The red line is the "ready" button of my flash, which I added to increase the unease in this shot. I wanted it to be crowded, busy and hectic, so I left it in; I think it fits with what I wanted to achieve with the three images: Increase the tension until the unease would become unbearable (losing it...;o))

Hi Stephan, Each shot is a single exposure, I ran out in front of the camera, blinding myself with the flash light; a pretty good excersise...:) John's and Maria's explainations are very clever thought of, probably more profound than my initial idea.... In my reply to John, I tried to explain it.

Hi John, I know you like'm cleaner, and you are an expert on that. It's very nice to see how everybody perceives this series, and I do like your explanation. Probably more indepth than mine... The original idea originated from Herman Finkers with his song where he increases the misery in his song about the elfstedentocht. I started off nicely, increasing the unease with every single shot. Losing it is related to me, as I noticed my recent shots became more and more experimental.... Time to take a step back, if you know what I mean...;o)

In looking at the current three parts of this series, I definitely have an overwhelming sense of insanity. Just this morning I had watched an episode of the "Twilight Zone" in which the Nazi captain responsible for the torture of the people contained in a concentration camp, went back for a visit. He was met by one ghost, then he was faced with many ghosts. In the end, he was considered insane. Anyhow, this really makes me think of that episode again. The "demons" build up in this image, from just a few to an overwhelming amount, causing utter chaos within the mind, and also total confusion and insanity. In the image before of the man singing, at first he starts out rather mellow, but as the song escalates so does his adrenaline and he becomes frantic and it ends up looking rather insane. In the first image, of the ladybug(?) lawn ornament, its suprising at the life it has been given through your images. It, also like the man, starts out dormant then gets to be extremely fast and you almost wonder when the wings will eventually fall off. I am unsure what the true intent is, but it is rather nice to have the viewer come up with their own point of view on the subject of the image. I find that when viewers do come up with different stories it does bring more satisfaction then when they tell you the story exactly how you meant it. I appreciate your comments, and yes I agree that maybe too much in the about, normally I don't do so, I guess for that particular image I started out unsure.

FANTASTIC work Hugo. Love to see this kind of thing happening. I rate you very highly - but I'm sorry I never rate on the scale 1-7. There is just too much in an art such as photography to weigh up!

A triptych can also be, more loosely, something composed or presented in three parts or sections.

The inter-galaxic toy men came painfully eager and determined to find it. The blue light of their planet was visible against the flying lightballs they were holding to land safely. Reaching Hearth they hid the lightballs so as not to draw any attention, and yet, they were spooky. They were determined to find it even if that meant they would spend their timeless lives there, with the rest of the race, trying to find it!
Impressive photos, how I missed these ones?? Very artistic and well presented. Technically flawless of course! It is hard to make assumptions as to what the story is, but lets the mind free to imagine, really what is the story behind? Maria Louisa said a wise, very thoughtful thing! Congratulations! great work!7+

For me this seems like a story about a rescue patrol approaching with their headlights, and i'm the one lying with a stone over my leg so i cannot move, and my eyes are getting out of focus as i releaved see that i'm getting rescued.. yep, i've seen too many movies.. hehe. I like what you're doing in these triptychs.

Here you created an eerie mood,increasing in the following pictures.This face looks like a mask,IMHO ,and as if he or they are searching for something or someone...but now I give up,and will not stare any longer at this sinister wood...before I go to bed:)

I think this is a great creative idea; I like it and honour to your fantasy; to loose in acceleration, in motion and in darkness is almost a metaphor of life hidden in this nine and well executed shots; the latter one is dramatic as a bad dream nonetheless one can not stop watching at it; that light ahead of the man is very attractive as guiding light; very very nice Hugo

How did u do it? u combined lots of pictures in each part? Is it a real person with makeup on? He looks so unreal, aside from the darkness and use of flashlight maybe that?s the creepy part
Interesting build up and in the last part hes really losing it!
One small critique, in the last pic theres a distracting red line created by long exposure of one of the pictures maybe cloning it out would be better
I know this picture will hunt me at night!!!
But im a coward so don?t worry about it :P

suprise!Suprise!SUPRISE! Sure didn't see this one comming. Well,I imagine that if 100 people looked at this and drew some kind of meaning/feeling from it,there would be 100 different responses(which would no doubt delight you). So I give you mine...title it 'indecision'.
I view the images as the mind and each individual bust as a thought,memory,fear,the lightbuld going off in our head,the whisper from our conscience,ect. And the third picture here the stage that brings on sleeplessness,tossing and turning as our mind grapples with a 'right' decision or plan of action as it's bombarded with imformation overload. (OK,I'll take my medicine now :)
Anyway,great job on this thought provoking triptych which a lot of thought and effort went into.

An extraordinary arrangement, is not simple as many think, the difficulty lays on the exposure time (30sec),and knowing that done with hand held, the most amazing and catch the attention ,the bottom shot, am not sure why but remind me of the latest earth quick in Japan where I?ve seen double images ,results from the shaking,, again the other top shots, has that feeling of search and rescue persons with a low light sources as of searching for something, as the images appeared from the dark background you can put any imagination you might come across, for sure this one is most attractive and inviting too, splendid work as usual my friend, Saeed
