f16 seems to have bridged the gap, Hugo. The branch on the left not only frames the image, but also draws us in. The vertical orientation lets us see the air at altitude compared with the air near the ground.

Very well captured, Hugo. Its the heat of the sun which makes the dust to raise up in those hot countries. Ho boy you have not seen the city smog in India. Regards, ken.

This is exactly how it looks in L.A., every day.
Nicely captured. Amazing how this resembles L.A. so much. If you did not inform people of where this really is, I think most people would think it was L.A., it they had ever visited L.A. and climbed up into the hills here.

Hi Hugo, I?ve lived my whole life in Tehran before i came to Nederland. This picture reminds me my vacation to Iran last year. There have been lots of changes since i left my country except Tehran?s pollution which gets worse and worse. If you toke the same image at the night, it would have been much different. Maybe you did!!! And believe me those fogs won?t disappear with any kind of shouting?..then next time don?t bother:-) regards,

A personal favourite from your collection. Pollution is something that I'm only too used to myself living in Tokyo. But it is difficult to photograph well, and in a way that captures a mood - this has been achieved here with the brown fog over brown grass, and with the bare branched trees in the foreground suggesting the hard struggle to survive in such a suffocating atmosphere.
My compliments, Peter

Hi Telmo, You crack me up! You should've been there, hearing me shout and swear at the fog to clear up after asking politely a few times. I don't speak the language, though, so I thought that if I shouted, the fog would understand me better.....;o)
On a more serious note, you hit the spot. Thanks for your comment, my friend!

Hi Hugo! The photo is good, although I believe it should have less smoke, so we could see the city better... (...) pffff! Just kiding my friend! This acid humor will kill me someday! ;-)
I read most of the coments above mine and I believe that there isn't much more to say... I wished this photo was the exception to the rule... Unfortunatly it is the rule... I say - this is my fault too! I?m trying to change my habits and, specially, I'm trying to teach my son how to live in this world respecting the environement more than I do myself... Thank Hugo for your participation with this significative photo... I'm waiting for the others... Big responsability you have, my friend! Cheers, Telmo

Right after Mexico city just might be Los Angeles. Yes, this is a familiar site, sad to say. Fortunately not in San Diego.
Very interesting photograph, Hugo. I like the 'filtered' lighting, and really like how you composed it. Also like the fact that you made it a vertical instead of horizontal!
Nice work, as usual! Lori :)

amazing that tehran's pollution is worse on a daily basis than LA on a bad day! i guess twilight cityscapes here are impossible. it would be interesting to see a night shot of this. i remember travelling around SE arizona and coming up to a border town. agua negra, i think. it's one of those towns where half the town is in the US and the other half is in mexico. as you drove up to it you could clearly see a massive pollution cloud that prevented the town's light from escaping upwards. the strange bit was that the pollution was neatly settled on the mexican side. i guees we know on which side of town the industrial bits where ;^)
great photo! tom

Hi Hugo,
This picture reminds me of the Mexico City I lived in 13 years ago... It was terrible... I did not if the sky was blue or gray.., Daily I saw it gray... It was awful...
This pollution problem, I think exists in all big cities, and most of all in cities hidden within valleys...
Great reporting job (Taken from your wordws)... Seeing this picture, we have to thinks that we are killing ourselves, and if we do not act we will perish to our own accord...
Thanks for reminding us this...
Your friend,
Maria

Hi Neil, I almost always use ISO 400, and the NPH in particular, as I think it is a very versatile film.
Using three different lenses (28-105 @ f3.5-f4.5, a 135mm macro @2.8 and a 135-400mm @f4.5-f5.6, each with a different number of segments) with the Nikon F100, I can use it in virtually all circumstances without reaching the limits of my camera settings. (even indoors, without the use of a flash)
Especially while travelling, where I tend to shoot under very changing lighting conditions (which I cannot predict when loading the film), I find that very useful. I hardly ever shoot a roll of film on a specific subject under comparable situations when I'm "on the road".
If I can plan the situation in advance, I do select a "dedicated" film.
Thanks for your comment,
Cheers,
Hugo
