Bill I dont crop at all but I use the 50mm with a +4 diopler(close up lens). The 50mm mm is one of the sharpest lenses the canon makes its great , It does suffer slightly from the close up lens it takes a little of the sharpness away but the 50mm is so sharp it can handle it.Best yet it is really cheap I got mine on ebay brand new for 63.00.

Great Job..I really laughed when I read your responce to Ron Beezley...I alway say the same thing to my family...they dont see the bad ones!..
Very well done..I like the lighting, I have been trying some butterflies here in Florida, but only have the Canon 70-200 and 24-85, really need a good macro lens. Are you cropping a lot with the 50mm? I have not looked at the spec's for it yet.

FANTASTIC!! You really have this down to an art, and you're creating ART! Just beautiful, once again! Love the rich colors and the way you composed this is wonderful. I especially like just the edge of the flower in the lower part of the frame, good and clear detail in the butterfly,
PERFECT lighting. His wings seem to glow!

Lori :)
I'm making this one a favorite, I LOVE IT! :)

Hugo , the bigger butterflies are not here yet so I think Im going to try some other insects for a while , I like being outside and landscape photography does not do it for me.So I will be moving on to some other wildlife.I like catching living things in motion and Butterflies are best when taken in a static position.Time to move on to bigger and better things. If I find a good specimen of butterfly I'll just have to break down and take another shot though.....

Der Dan, I love butterflies and your composition is really beautiful. I like this dark flower and the dark background - it makes the butterfly so real. Good work.

Dan - this is the best composition of the three! Amazing that the flower is a complementary color to the butterfly - wow, maybe that's built into Nature??
