This is a perfect setting for the rule of thirds! Here, since there wasn't much happening in the sky, you could raise the horizon to the upper 1/3 line and get 2/3 of the image of beach and people. The strong figure of the guy on the left would have anchored the lower left intersection perfectly.

A snap shot indeed, but many very fine photographers have made a reputation for themselves world wide by being snapshotters. Nice ( how about finding a lovely lady at your beach and photographing her. A sure hit on USEFILM.

Depth of field too shallow. Looks like a casual snap shot - it's hard to find a difinitive subject here. I would shoot from a lower level directly behind the people, as if you're folowing them onto the beach.
