About Wandering around Bale Mill in the Napa Valley of California I came upon some parts that simply caught my eye. Originally shot in color but desaturated by selecting the green channel. My sense was that this channel had the best tonal values and range and that's what I look for in a B&W that catches my eye. This one had shapes, tonal value and textures... I just liked it!

The thumbnail attracted my attention because of the tonal range and the muted feel to the composition. The composition of the parts is great but what really makes the photo is the shading and tonality of the wall. Especially the large light area whose line seems to echo the largest gear wheel.
