About
OK, I went and got lost today, and found this guy. A month ago, I couldn't get anywhere close to a GBH (the one at Contra Loma Reservour must be shy) and now I can't scare them away :) There were two at the golf course at Shoreline Lake in Mountain View, both very used to being around people, I think. I got loads of pics, and will spare you all all but a few. Such a nice, sunshiney day here...
Hi Marcus-- yes, I like getting lost, usually-- but with the right shoes and a bottle of water would have been nice! ;) Funny how some of these are so confident and bold, and others, like the one at Contra Loma, take flight at the drop of a hat. This guy almost seemed to like having his photo taken-- it was almost like cheating (he really is alive, honestly!).
another great capture of the heron, I have to agree with Bill, some of my best shots have come when i was not where i started out going but ended up, which of course was lost. These guys are very unpredictable, I have seen them on the sides of airport runways, open fields without any water in sight, a few on rooftops, the side of the freeway etc.. I have often wondered what makes them leave the typical wetlands and seek out mice in dry areas, I bet Yamil would know LOL...
URGH! Thanks, Bill-- so few sunny days here now, I'm trying to get out when I can... and boy, did I ever get lost! Oh well, I had knee surgery a couple of months ago, so I've been lazy, I can use the exercise. But water for sure, in the future :)
I'm looking forward to seeing some bird shots in snow...(not that I want to get close to the stuff, I grew up in it and hate it!), so I'm looking forward to some of your new work. I hope you're missing all of the bad weather they are getting out there, my dad is in Wisconsin and they got almost a foot of snow...
Some times getting lost is the only way to go. Your images with that 80-400 are turning out great Christine. The Egerts and GBH's are all gone here in Michigan so I look foreward to more of your shots. Keep up the good work and pack a couple of sandwhich's and bottled water for your next trip.......Just in case!!!
