Thank you, Steve. A different orientation certainly changes the photo. I like it. I've uploaded two more views of this salubrious wingnut. I'd be interested in your opinion. Cheers, Ann.

Ann, I think you have the workings of a fine photograph, but I have a couple of suggestions for changes both of which you can chalk up to personal taste, if you wish, and disregard my comments. When viewing macro photos I often find myself wanting a bit more definitioin from the background. In the wingnut photo I would especially prefer more detail in the area on the left. The other suggestion is to change the orientation to provide what I think would be a more interesting composition. I've attached an example of what I mean. Let me know what you think.

Tool ehh cool macro!! Excellent composition, great (square) crop, I love rust... it gives wonderful colors and texture... good details and DOF, but I would've like this pic even more if the tips of the wingnut were in focus too... well done!!

Hi Ann, intersting shot, and I like the unusual composition, taking the wingnut head on, and using an horizontal line of symmetry. It creates a rather graphic lay-out, whereas the subtleties in this shot are far from graphical. A good combination.

I think I tend towards the graphical lay-out as one of the strengths in this image, though. And from that point of view, I find the DOF too shallow; having everything in focus would be the right approach.

The way you captured the corrosion and worn out paint is very impressive though. Very good natural tones.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Rusty, I really like the colors and the definition, that nice yellow wave...well I like very much the details and actually I don't like too much the subject. ;-)
Hope you will do some real critique to me sometimes...all the best. ;-)
