About One of my favorite spots along any coast in the world is the Cauldron, near Oregon's Depot Bay. I named it a while ago when I first came across its remarkable beauty while exploring the rugged, outermost headlands. Waves 10 meters high crash into this rocky shore as fierce winter storms pummel the coastline. Never seen another photographer here and rarely another person. I was there last night and captured this image. It was a 3.5 minute exposure about 45 minutes after sunset. The clouds grabbed my attention and really completed the image. I used a 2-stop hard grad to control the single RAW exposure. PS work was limited to levels, dodge/burning and sharpening. Thanks for your comments.

Marc -- A masterful study in composition! Love the contrast in both texture and in color. I've heard it said that sometimes all the elements may conspire against us. In this image, just the opposite seems to be true. I love it when cooperative elements, timing, talent, and skill all come together in an image. The result is simply breath-taking.

Best Regards,
-Mike.

A splendid image. The PS work is not at all obvious, and the two-stop grad filter made the whole thing possible despite digital's low dynamic range. I know I couldn't have captured this on film, so I'm just glad you had whatever made it possible to create this beauty. Another for my favourites...

Rob, I'm just lazy and haven't adjusted the time. No need to really. Roland, thanks. Hopefully this will be used in an upcoming OP issue. Harry, in addition to Tamron being a sponsor, they make excellent glass. No difference in sharpness between this and the 16-35 Canon and savings in price and weight. My next lens may be the 24mm TS-E.

Beautiful shot, love the angle! I wish if I have the time to visit places like you do :) most of my shoots are urbanize hand held with few minutes of time. I am wonder why you choose the Tampon 17-35 instead the 16-35 Canon; I'm looking and reviewing the 5D.
Excellent work!
Cheers,
Harry

Marc,

Incredible shot...as a matter of fact all of your work is great!

Have you adjusted the time on your camera? Your time in your EXIF data seems to be wrong.

BTW...your website has amazing work on it!

Absolutely amazing and beautiful Marc. Is Oregon so beautiful that a spot like this can have so few visitors?

Another breathtaking image Marc. A super use of long exposure to achieve such a lovely effect on the water. Gorgeous colours.

I'm leaving shortly to get on the road again but I hope I can come back to UF occasionally (by means of wireless internet Hot Spots) to see your images as you post them.

Thank you for bringing us such amazing scenes.

Cheers from Ann :)
