  Q. ps2; spotlight works with some photos and the rest, I cant even use the option, help

Asked by gary spillane    (K=1617) on 12/25/2004
I have used the spotlight before and it still is available to use for some select photos, but is not available for most, any reason for this? also, my cropping tool now locks up my computer, never done this before, used to work great, any help at all will be appreciated, thank you

For lighting effects to work > you have to be in RGB color mode, grayscale or CMYK won't work. That might be the problem. My old comp. at work used to get program errors like crazy w/ using the crop tool..I would re-install PS and it would work ok for about 3 months > then program errors again :( But try re-installing photoshop if possible, you might have better luck than I did,

Sounds to me like your cropping problem is related more to lack of resources on your computer. Not that I am a computer expert but as time goes by, all the little background things that load or bog down your computer takes up those resources even if no other programs are running.

I would look to that as a possible cause. You might have to do some maint. like erasing cache, temp files, etc. Or even eventually reformat your drive and start anew.

I use my laptop for PS and found that I had to restrict the size of the images I was working on to get the program to work without bogging down. Resources are my guess as well. If you scan a high resolution file as I did, say 1200dpi for a neg, I found that reducing the scan depth to 720dpi yielded similar quality and made the file much easier to work on. Someday I'll get that dual processor G5 with 2gigs memory. Photoshop also needs a scratch drive space to work so it can write out the temporary files as it works, try checking that setting and make sure there is enough free space on your drive. Hope that helps! -mm
