Many thanks for your comment, Brigitte. You are very kind. I am at home in Tarifa at present, but will be travelling for much of the rest of the year.
As I mentioned to Tony, I'm taking a break from UF as I got fed up of the bad attitude of a few members (including one who had a go at you...) I am also very disappointed by the absence of the admin. This was not a decision I took lightly as I have many friends here and UF has the potential to be a great site. Maybe I'll come back at some point - I do drop in from time to time - but in the meantime I'm hanging out on RedBubble.
Best regards John

Hi Tony!
Many thanks for your comment. I am in Tarifa at present, but will be travelling for much of the rest of the year as I have new projects starting in Ukraine and Morocco.
I'm not posting on UF at present as I got fed up of the bad attitude of a few members and the absence of the admin. This was a hard decision as I have many friends on UF and in principal it should be a great site, but it got to a point where I no longer felt comfortable here. Maybe I'll come back at some point, but in the meantime I'm hanging out on RedBubble.
Best regards John

This is massive! You've got to look at the "big picture" - there is just so much going on in it.

Many thanks for your comment, Carrie - I always appreciate hearing what people really think.
I do in fact have shots where the policeman is the main subject. I do not see this shot as particularly artistic, but rather as a demonstration of what can be pulled out of a rather drab street-scene - in the original there is a harsh contrast between the light and shadow, and overall the image is rather grey.

Many thanks, Ray. I am not a fan of such street "art", but it is true that this scene would be rather harsh without it.

Thanks Doyle - I am still surprised by how much detail that is not immediately apparent can be pulled out of a raw image.

I have to congratulate you on this shot, Ania - I tried to take some pictures of these guys today and it is not easy! You've got him beautifully in focus and caught his rich colours.

You must have had your head on the ground!
Having scanned through the comments, let me try to explain my point of view. This caught my eye because of its originality. I like the extra dimension that the birds bring, and they also help to balance the image.

Thanks Gary. Though concrete, the staircase is rather grand. It doesn't see much use even though it is in the centre of the city - there is a six lane highway at the top and the river behind my back.
AJ
PS. Exactly that - I like the contrast. How come? Many years ago a job took me to Warsaw and, well, you know how it goes, you meet a girl and... As for Tarifa, well, the windsurfing is no good in Warsaw.

Thanks JD. It is a lot of work to set up a website from scratch, but I think it is ultimately more satisfying than using an automated or off-the-shelf design.
As far as this photograph is concerned, it is not really intended as high "art". I see it more as a humourous street scene. But it's a very busy scene, making it hard to get the cool policeman to stand out against everything else that's going on (including those buses on the flyovers!) I think the HDR helps this, adding a hint of comic-book drawing to it.
At the end of the day, this was a grab shot that turned out rather grey and dismal. HDR brought it to life. That's the view from my side, but as always your views are much appreciated and are a great help.

Wow, today on UF we had a visit from the Admin and the great DDC! (Is there any connection... snigger, snigger!)
I was in NYC in November but I'm now back in Yurp, sitting out the economic blip. Gives me lots of time to learn new things. I'm still experimenting with this HDR stuff but it is surprising how much detail it can extract from even a single RAW image.
Thanks for dropping by, AJ

A wild and imaginative photo - that's an angry industrial background you've chosen! Though the sunset is beautiful, it is made to look toxic by the skyline.
