I really like the haze and the colours in this picture. The only recommendation I would make would be to crop a bit of the bottom off - I found the water (or ice?) in the bottom of the frame a little distracting, but other than that it is a truly lovely picture.

Given that the Winter Olympics are currently taking place in my country I thought this picture was interesting - it reminds me that after the Olympics are all over, and the people are gone the place returns to its former nature. This looks somewhat abandoned and almost forgotten - like many of the achievements of humans... a philosophical picture in a way.

Other than the bit of window reflection in the upper right hand portion of the picture (hard to avoid I know) this is a great shot of our nation's capital. Nice placement of the library building in the frame.

I have a similar shot taken along Wascana Creek here in Regina, nothing like a prairie winter to create a beautiful scene like this. Nicely captured Dave, you use the curve in the river effectively.

I didn't see the bridge until I viewed this as a large image. Nice sense of space and framing. I wonder if it would have been an even stronger image if we saw a bit more space above the bridge. Still a nice picture regardless.

This is one of those pictures that does not look impressive as a small thumbnail image, but then when one looks at the large version there is much of visual interest to ponder. My only comment is that I would have cropped out some of the top of the image with the bluish lights, making the highlights of the image line up more with the rule of thirds. An interesting photo.

Hello Jim,

My wife and I certainly enjoyed it, some great food, interesting historical and cultural sites - we could have spent more time there (we only had a couple of days). I'm sure you will find it great, lots to take photos of!

I really like everything about this image except the bits of foam in the water in the lower right corner. Somehow that didn't seem to belong with the rest of the image which has blurred water movement mixed with lovely colours and dark outlines of land. I realize you couldn't do anything about that foam, and that it is realistic, but perhaps that is my issue with it - the rest of the image is almost mystical. Still, even with the foam, it is an eye-catching shot. Well done.

Nice use of a wide angle lens to give the image energy with the ripples in the water converging towards the building in the centre. Even the clouds point the eye back to the central building with its accents of colour. Well done.

Great mood and composition - captures the sense of despair and grief seen in some pictures from World War II. Everything about this image is interesting.

A great colour, so rich and warm - an interesting contrast with the coolness of the moisture drops. A captivating macro image - beautifully done!

The use of perspective is great here - it really emphasizes the size of the load of straw, and the huge job it will be to unload it. The lighting is very dramatic, but perhaps a bit to dark for my liking, too much shadow. Overall an interesting image, well captured.

When I first saw this I thought it was taken in the foothills of Alberta - cattle country! To my surprise it is Italy! Nice use of Point of perspective, with the fence leading the eye deep into the picture, to the distant hills. I also like the wispy clouds in the deep blue sky - by any chance did you use a polarizing filter? Nice picture - very pastoral and peaceful.

This is really cool - I'm not sure what it is, but the image sparks the imagination. I imagined the setting of the sails for a magical vessel that would carry me to the stars. Nice abstract!

Nice use of reflections to bring interest to modern architecture. These kind of pictures always capture my interest. Well seen, and well composed.

The colour seems a bit off on the girl's face, thought the man's seem fine. I suspect it had to do with the setting. The composition and depth of field are well used here, and the expressions on the faces suggest a story unfolding. The strong colour highlights in the background and on the girl's coat tie the image together. So perhaps a bit of colour adjustment in the area of the girl's face and this picture is a winner. Nicely captured.

Nicely done - creative experimenting results in surprising images, keep experimenting! Lovely combination of colour and form in an abstract picture.

These hills almost seem organic - rather strange, but in a good way. I like this image of the badlands even more than the other one I commented on. The bit of green at the top of the image gives it some roots in reality, putting it firmly in the realm of nature - a good choice to include the greenery. Well done.

The great details in this picture are missed if not viewed in the largest format. The image has a great sense of mystery and bleakness about it. The monochrome nature of the picture, plus the creative framing work gives it a timeless feel, the whole image comes across as history to me. A very effective work - well done.

I can see why it is one of your favorite shots - a great juxtaposition of our man-made environment and natural environment. The deep colour of the butterfly contrasts in a symbolically meaningful way with the monochrome flavour of the street and curb. The perspective and composition of this picture are really powerful. I like your title too.

So does artistic licence mean you placed the milk crates in a more eye pleasing arrangement? This is such an interesting picture, the snaking electrical conduit is the icing on the cake - an element curving chaos amidst the straight lines in the rest of the image. I now realize looking a little closer that the monochrome look (except the crates) was created by you. I think it works well in this context - not too unrealistic that it becomes distracting. A nicely conceived work, and well executed.

As a life long Canadian prairie dweller I have seen few pictures that are able to capture the expanse of the sky - your image is able to convey the largeness of the sky and the flatness of the land - a tricky balance to acheive, your composition seems to do the trick, at least to these eyes.

It is not often that a giant sand dune picture also includes smaller dunes. I like the contrast between the large dune in the forground and the smaller dunes in the background - it emphasizes the size of the larger dune. The early morning (or late evening) light makes the patterns and footprints in the sand stand out really well. A great image - well done!

Just the right shutter speed - to keep the geese sharp but with some motion blurring of the wingtips showing movement. Having the flock in flight against a sunset background makes for a great picture - reminds me of autumn.

Lovely hues in this picture. I like how the lines created by the shore and water lead off at angles giving a strong sense of perspective - thus the tower, while small in the image, still has a sense of being big. Nicely done.

An interesting shot of patterns and textures in this wall. The light seems to be indirect or subdued, I wonder what this section of wall would look like with strong side lighting producing stronger contrast. Still I like the way this looks, it reminds me of one of those satellite images of the earth.
