I just got back from SF - we walked from Union Square to the Ferry bldg, then along the Embarcadero to the GG bridge, then on to Sausalito. Only pics were with my iPhone. No shame - the point was the walk, not the photos! I don't fly with cameras anymore. I'll put this location on my go-to list for my next trip out there. Such a fab photo!

Patience is a virtue, which is evident in this electrifying shot!

Would you email me Chels? I've lost your addy.

Chels, these frost shots are freaking awesome! You really have the knack of capturing something so delicate!

Thanks for the Christmas comment. Happy Christmas to you too!

(Guess which dummy left her camera at home this year?? D'oh.)

Wonderfully minimalist, Kim! The gentle ripples on the water's surface add just the right amount of visual tension.

I like how you framed this, too!

I enjoyed looking at this composition. The image is a little soft to me, especially in the darker bodies. Is this something you did intentionally or could it be a by-product of the post processing? I'm not saying that the softness is a weakness, although more sharpness in the feathers would be nice too. Leaving the green background soft, as it would be with a controlled DOF, works well.

Overall, however, I really like your concept and the execution. You couldn't have chosen more perfect positions and facial expressions for this compo!

Great job.

This image is so spectacular, I could actually hear the airplane as I viewed it.

Hugo!

The muted colors in this image make the rain quite tangible. I get a voyeuristic feeling - with umbrellas covering their faces, the five solitary figures have a certain anonymity. I feel like I am part of the scene, observing them from an unnoticed spot.

For whatever reason, the 5 bodies appear to float over the wet pavement, with just a hint of ghostly reflections beneath them. I'm not sure if I like that characteristic, but at any rate it adds a surreal aspect to this well-conceived image.

I had a major computer meltdown, am just getting back to square one now. Lost addy's, some images (hopefully will recover), etc. Good to see you are around!

Really engaging photo! It caught my eye immediately. The assymetery vs. symmetry makes this a well-conceived, winning image.

I love this shot - and am laughing at the thought of your son's future girlfriend getting to enjoy it too! By that time you will be able to share an entire album of photos that document every moment.

Nice work with the camera and the post processing - perfect for this image.

Thanks for your comment, Kim!

No, I am not posting elsewhere...Usefilm is my only photographic home! I've been a total slacker lately - no real excuses. I stare at the camera a lot, and think about shots. Maybe this is the lull before the creative storm.

Hopefully there will be more very soon.

I agree with you regarding this shot. No idea what I did wrong, but wow is it soft in all the wrong places.

Thanks for your comment on my mountain reflection shot. It led me to your portfolio.

I like this shot a lot, but I am really mesmerized by how the building details and the people in the distance look almost rotoscoped (even though that term really is for animation). What post processing did you apply to this image? The contrast, which is really strong here, seems to simplify the image, which I like.

Interesting!

Steve, I shot this image over four years ago, so I don't recall the specifics about aperture, etc.

The E10 has a fixed zoom lens, so obviously that was the lens used. I might have used a macro diopter, but really can't recall. It seems like I did use one, but has been too long to remember for sure.

Sorry to not be more helpful. Thanks for looking though! :)

Wonderful shot! We have an Aussie who looks a bit like your dog. Ours can't fly, though, unless there is a treat involved, and then she would rather knock you over to get it than to jump a fence.

Thank you for describing how you made this shot (tripod, 15 shots, etc.). I've tried the freeze frame shots before with no success, think a flash would have made mine better.

Steve, thanks very much for your comment. I can't believe I posted such a weak image! Blame it on holiday overload. You made some helpful suggestions, specifically about ways to position the handle and about how to make the steam more visible (hot coffee, cold air). I have this image in my head and will shoot again and play with it.

I also want to do some lens experiments just to see how different lenses treat the same subject. Not sure if it will work with this small a subject, but I'll give it a try.

Thanks again for the comment. It is very helpful.

Oh it looks terrible here...not sure what I did. The original image on my computer definitely has a shallow DOF, but the front brim of the cup is sharp, and the background is light without being blown out.

Ick.

You KNOW this is right up my alley. What a great discovery. The inner yellow petals look just like long delicate fingers. Nice capture, eg.

Michael, I was perusing some images that I'd missed, and fortunately came across this wonderful fall folliage photograph. I love the selective focus, but most especially I am charmed by the small curl on the edge of the yellow leaf. Something about this image really fits my mood, as I write this on a November evening. Wonderful!

Hugo, I'm a little late to see this and comment on it. This triptych makes a powerful impact. I like the use of red and black - strong colors that work well with the strong angles within each image. There is such a graphic quality to the structure within the image. I'm sure your work will help Cafe Invento be a smashing success.

Congrats on all aspects of this project!

OK, your pics have convinced me I definitely want to go to Churchill!! Thanks for the tour group recommendation.

I just love how you captured the texture of the bear's fur.

By the way, I just checked the weather there - it is 7F and blowing snow, windchill of -16F. Sounds a little nippy for this southerner! Can you rent cold weather gear?

Bob, I heard you went to Churchill! That is on my life list of places to see. Thanks for posting this image; I'm even more convinced I want to visit there sometime.

I'm impressed with how you managed the light - all white and no blowouts.

Really impressive!

This gives me such a feeling of calmness. I love the mist on the water. The tone is really nice, and the image is well served by the pano crop.

Nathan, I really like this image. It has a Normal Rockwell feeling to it, with such an iconic image of a scout.

This is one of those wonderful images you could play with in PS to easily remove the man standing behind the boy - just by cloning out a few buttons and seams.

The image doesn't need to be changed at all, it was just a random thought I had about how to isolate the boy in the image.

Pet!!

I like this image a lot! For some reason I'd prefer her back heel (and maybe her hand) to be sharper. At first I wasn't sure if she was actually leaving or arriving.

There is a dark mood to this image, enhanced perhaps by the BW. It wouldn't work so well as a color image, me thinks.

Anyway, it is great to see your images again.
